Wow! You guys are really on the ball. As nice as Crow's gun sounds it's a little out of my price range. Since this is my SECOND passion I have to be somewhat frugal, unfortunately. As far as buying a gun from an actual store, well..... I really live in the boondocks here in NM. Albuquerque is 3 hours away and Santa Fe thinks everything they have is made of gold. It will be an online order probably. I have been watching gunbroker and there is a Walther Falcon there at a reasonable price but I don't know that much about the Falcon either. My goal is to achieve a true 900 - 1000 fps and be able to take the occassional rabbit or grouse skulking about our property. We do occassionally get coyotes right up by the house and I have 3 dogs but they are older and I'm afraid would lose any serious confrontation. My neighbors pretty much leave us alone but don't necessarily mind their own business if you know what I mean, so any firearm discharge will be cause for scrutiny although not necessarily illegal. The local sheriff is guarded about answering that question. So since most of the NP XL owners comment on the quietness of the gun and the power and accuracy, that is what I'm basing my quest to purchase a Trail NP XL in .22 on. I am still shopping, though and appreciate all of your opinions. By the way, I have a total of about 12 different boxes of .177 pellets and my Shadow really does shoot the PBA the best and I have chronographed it at 957 to 1015 fps with that pellet. Although it does best accuracy with this pellet it is still no tack driver. I gave up trying to bench shoot it at all and have tried all manner of shooting styles including "artillery" hold. It does best using the smallbore standing hold where you twist you hips to the trigger side and rest your forehand elbow on your foreward hip with the fingers of that hand providing a platform just infront of the trigger guard. I's comfortable and steady once you get used to it. I'm finding it very difficult to come up with a definite decision on what to buy. It will probably come down to whatever meets most of my requirements at the time I have the money in my hand. But I am having fun researching and shopping. Thanks a bunch for all your input I have so many questions. Tom
