Afternoon, everyone -
I just joined the GTA site a few days ago, but I've read more than a few posts from you folks over the last couple of months. Helped me narrow down a cool gun to get back into the airgun thing after so many years.
At any rate, I'm a divorced guy in my forties, recently moved back home to East Texas after living in Kansas City for quite some time. Have plenty of places to shoot out here on the family farm, and no shortage of armadillos, skunks, and possums to dispatch. This is where I learned to hunt and shoot when I was a kid, and both my father and grandfather taught me very well. It's funny, because I don't "hunt" anymore for pleasure or meat, and I'm probably a better shot than I should be, for how little practice I've gotten over the years. But I digress.
Some personal info: I work as a chef at a hunting ranch, and work part time as a solo musician. Made a nice living in KC playing music for 20+ years, but it was time for a change. I also worked as a skydiving coach and parachute rigger, and will likely be working at another dropzone here in Texas soon. I've mastered a couple of things in my life, so I know the value of easing into a new hobby or activity. I've seen too many expensive guitars gathering dust, and too many blood-soaked ultra custom parachute rigs to know the truth: Expensive toys don't mean a
thing
in the hands of an unqualified user. Ah, but again, I digress.
When I was a kid, I got to shoot my cousin's 1970s Crosman .22 springer (which I'm told is still around here somewhere!) before I ever owned an air rifle of my own. My uncle had every US-made hunting rifle and handgun, so I got to shoot a LOT. For some reason, though, I've never liked gunpowder as much as air. I saved up for a Daisy Powerline 880, and a couple of years later, got myself an original Crosman 1377, that came with the stock at the time. Both of those guns have disappeared over the years, but just recently, I got the urge to spray BBs at a possum that was eating cat food off the porch...
That was about a month ago. I never had a C02 pistol before, so I picked up the Crosman C11 that's packaged with holster as the "Survivalist." Three days after that, I was in a pawn shop, and asked if they had any air rifles. There was only one, a Beeman RS2 Sportsman, with only the .177 barrell. They had $50 on it, so I offered the guy $35 - I told him it was missing one barrel, the scope, the breech seal o-ring, and the front f/o sight was broken. Walked out with it for $40 cash. I picked up a dovetail converter, and stuck an enclosed reflex sight on it for less than $35. I think I have a nice little possum killer here for less than $100. I'll take a pic and post it, if there's any interest.
So anyway, here I am. Don't know what else I'm going to do/purchase in the future, but I will listen to, and heed, positive advice. I love building and restoring guitars and parachute rigs, so I'll probably get the mod-bug like a lot of you. lol
Thanks for reading -
