Hi all... I am new to airguns...I have read a lot of info on the forums trying to figure out which gun I wanted to start with...I am surrounded on 3 sides of my house by a lake... We are on a hill...We have a serious turtle problem making it difficult to fish...So my initial thoughts were a gun that has enough power to penetrate a turtle shell yet is quiet enough to not disturb my neighbors on the lake....I ordered a XS-25 today from Mike...I am ordering it fully tuned...I figured this would be a nice starter gun for me....Anyone have experience hunting turtles with airguns?  Also can anyone recommend which pellets work best with this model... Hi, Christian, welcome to the GTA!!  Shooting at objects in the water at low angles will likely result in a ricochet.

The best pellet for a gun is determined by the gun.  The same make and model of gun do not necessarily want the same pellet.  The right pellet can change over time as the gun is broken in, too.

When you get your new gun, clean it.  Do not use stuff the powder burners use.  Clean the barrel with Goo Gone or Simple Green.  Pull the patch through with fishing line or weed whacker line from the breech to the muzzle.

I'd start with some of the less expensive Crosman pellets and go from there.  Look into Crosman Premium Hollow Points and Crosman Pointed Pellets for starters.  They're common and cheap.  Branch out from there.

Some good advise above, I have one more bit, do not try to shoot the turtles through the shell, you will injure more than you kill, go for a good head shot or base of the neck for a quick kill....

x2 on the head shots. that shell is a lot to get through  and still have enough energy to kill them right away or at all.I've kept turtles as pets but i honestly have no idea how their vitals are situated though.
