We had a tremendous turn out.  Tom Gaylord even stopped by.  That said we promoted it for several months and Bob Dye gets most of that credit.  He has a lot of contacts and really put the word out.  I was very pleased he won the match.  Our next match will be Saturday May 10th at 9:AM.  We are going to refine what we learned from this match and make it better.  I am still focusing towards the beginner & fun for my first few matches.  I will update this thread or start a new one a couple weeks out from May 10th.

I know how hard it is to get new shooters to attend but that is what the sport needs. Your group is doing a fantastic job.

Congratulations to Bob Dye for the good shooting but mostly for helping to get a new venue up and running.

The turnout surprised me, too!  As for winning, that was nice, and thanks for the kudos.  But some of my friendly competitors who habitually shoot better than me let me off the hook... Ron R. decided to shoot a 40 year-old Sheridan multistroke (Blue Streak, I think?) with a primitive 3/4" scope.  What fun!  And Mike V. shot his Ranchero pistol with a carbine stock attached.

I had contemplated shooting pistol, too.  But I couldn't work up the gumption to do so the way Mike did.  I thought sure these guys, or Phil R. or Paul B. would clean the course.  But it proved more of a challenge than it looked.

Thanks for the good thoughts Scott.  Myself and all the Yeguanistas were thrilled to see all the youngsters show up.  Need to work with them on safe gun-handling, but that can come later... It was enough simply to see 5-6 humans under 20 years of age shooting airguns.  Imagine that?

Craig and I basically split the promotion duties, he working to recruit the 15 or so within the PP Archery community, while I tried to wake up a few NTAGM crew who hadn't shot in a while.  Wonderful to see Buddy Holland do so well in his first ever FT match.  (He'll probably need to shoot "Advanced" next time around to give the novices a chance. LOL!)

And for starting a new venue, well, that's Craigs doing and well done, there!  What little help provided from the outside will serve as a good warm-up as we start a second new venue/club in Dallas proper, June 14th.   Stay tuned!

Now that the first Granbury match is history it makes me wonder if this thread has run its course but on the other hand what else do I have to talk about.  This is an exciting time for air gun enthusiast in N. TX. In one year you go from zero field target venues and now two.  Bob is working on a Dallas venue.  Their first match will be the second Saturday of June as Bob indicated above.  Bob and I will be working together to bring matches to the N. TX area by making sure we do not overlap match dates (including Yegua to the South). The key to our success, and your gain, is to get out to the matches.  Help us to promote and encourage new shooters to attend.  It takes work to set up a match and if turn out is bad it's not worth it.  It's really up to you to show up and bring friends.  If over the next couple of years we all work hard to grow the sport it is a gain for all.  As a match director for the Granbury shoot I am personally tied down as I can only dedicate a certain amount of my time to FT.  You guys in the long run will be the benefactors.  You will have more weekends available to go to a FT shoot.  Most people can not make a Granbury, Dallas, Yegua shoot all in one month.  There is a good chance you can at least make at least one of them.  When negotiating weekend activities with your significant other you will now have options.  Right now there are two match dates set for the N. TX area.  The next Granbury match will be Saturday May 10th & Dallas will be Saturday June 14th.  Be looking for updates and please come out to support us.  We do this out of love for the sport, surely not for money.  I figure I will need to have matches for three years to hit the break even point.
