Walther lg53 New pics

DOes anyone know if these old walther 53s are they accurate, Hows the trigger,  And about what velocity any information would be appreciated thankyou.

Not sure if the 53 is kin to the 55 ?
But if it is , there great shooters being very accurate and a great trigger too !!
Power about R7'ish being 7# +/- iirc

The Walthers are fabulous little rifles, some of the highest-quality break-barrel springers ever made IMHO.  But they are OLD, so knowledge of cosmetic and functional condition is critical. 

Most of the excellent info in Scott's link on the LG 55 will be applicable to the LG 53 (though I think 53's originally had leather piston seals).  Or course, as with any vintage airguns there are a lot of ways for things to go wrong if the gun is abused.

The 53 series also includes a wide range of models.  All the same basic action, but some with light sporter stocks, others with match stocks, a wide variety of sights, trigger details, and accessories, etc., were used on them.

They are small rifles and never intended for high power, about 600 fps guns with lighter ammo.  The action is very similar in size to the HW 30/R7 series.  The sporters are delightfully light and slender guns to carry, the match versions are of course bulkier and can have weight added to the stock and barrel.

Bottom line, very important to know exactly what you are buying first!

If it is a walther and is in any sort of decent condition, get it, they don't make them like that any longer.

I'll have to agree with Mike.  The Walther's are also my favorites.  The LG53 was not a match rifle, as was the LG55, but the internals are the same, as I was informed last year.  'I have no personal experience with the LG53.

I do know from first hand experience, the old LG 51 was a dream to shoot.  Small, powerful and quite accurate with lots of punch for a small rifle.  The seals are the same on the 51, as on the 55, so I'm guessing the 53 is the same as the others.

Nothing sounds like a Walther when cocked.  Very nice machine work done on them.  Also, they're so easy to work on, you won't believe how easy they come apart.  Very few parts in there.

Well thats good to know.   I wonder if a one piece offset mount would fit the rail I do realize its made for a peep sight, But it would be nice to put a small scope on.  I think its an lg53m scannin the interent looking at pics

If somethings not right inside....you could fix it. Most everything to it is 'just' metal parts.

But being about in line ( what ya paid ) to entry level Gamo/Crosman/Remington etc ... springers.
And QUALITY these rifle have with great barrels !! .... in working shape quite likely twice what you got it for.
They are sought after by those in the know FWIW

catastrophic was the key word ... if any of the primary NON wear & tear ( NOT the Spring / seal ) parts are goofed up your done being rifle & those parts are long obsolete.

Lets hope nothing catastrophic.  Hopefully just looking at upgrading to a synthetic seal and maybe a new spring.

Just my opinion, that beautiful little LG 53M is worth far more than you paid for it!  Congrats!

Again I believe the LG 53 used a leather piston seal, but it's possible I'm wrong or that it's been replaced.  If the gun ever suddenly loses power or otherwise indicates seal failure, STOP SHOOTING IMMEDIATELY.  It is easy to do permanent damage to the piston otherwise.

John Groenewold in Illinois sells parts for these (jgairguns.biz), you will enjoy taking a look there.

The guns are easy to dismantle, but there are a couple of tricks, the hardest one being the curiously-shaped bar that "blocks" the trigger mechanism when the barrel is broken down.  It's a sheet metal thing that attachés to the cocking link and goes into the trigger box.  When you drop the action out of the stock, TAKE GOOD PICTURES of how this thing fits, or you will be sorry!      It's very easy to turn it the wrong way and bend or break it, which will render the gun inoperable.

The scope rail is just spot-welded to the receiver.  Personally I would mount only a light scope or the OEM match sight.
