Range (balistics) card

I would like to add a range card, would like to use the one that come with Chairgun Pro, and place in a holder on the stock that I can change out as needed. Other option I saw online was to laminate and attach to a string on the scope. I prefer not to apply any adhesive labels to the turrets.

Any suggestions for a holder I can purchase or make from some parts? Rifle sock? just throwing out my limited ideas.

There are ID Card holders available where you put your ID Card in the case and wear it on your arm or hang it around your neck. Then people can easily check your identification. I bought one of the arm type and place the range card in the case and wear it on my left wrist facing me. As I raise my rifle the range card it is in the proper position for viewing.

Most people in FT label their focus wheel with yardage.....then keep a card handy, or make custom turret labels to go with the yardage. 

I prefer to label my focus wheel with the turret settings rather than yardage.  I really don't care to know exactly what the yardage is......I just want to hit what I am aiming at. 

Focus on the target......read turret setting off focus wheel......set turret......shoot.

I zero at 30 yards so my turret numbers never go negative.

In the Hunter Class, you cannot touch the Knobs.

The same principle will apply, whether you can turn the turrets or not.

You can mark holdovers on the objective focus instead of using yardage and an extra card.

The suggestion was just in case he wanted to know how to get the same thing accomplished without carrying a range card.

After all.....it seemed that the problem was where to put the range card.

Sorry you felt I was trying to provoke an argument.  I looked back over what I said, and can't even find anything that you might have misinterpreted as argumentative.

I simply print out my dope card at 2" X 5" sizing ranged from 10-65 yards on standard printer paper.
Trim it up to size and using CLEAR PACKAGING TAPE go over both sides doing a poor mans lamination.
Then loosen rifles stock from action slipping the bottom corner into the gap and re-tighten action.
Dope sheet sit alongside scope for easy reference

Scott, I do the same thing, with a 3x5 card.  It's easy to print.  I used Excel to transfer confirmed, and added a couple columns for some doping info...and notes on the back....for what that's worth somedays right?

  Marking the A/O, or "Focus",  doesn't violate any rules, and is common.  The "Focus" adjustment is not the same item as a "Turret".  You shouldn't need any turret adjustments, if you're rig is set up correctly, before you start shooting competition.  Save for malfunction.

Hey Ivan, I downloaded chairgun (or chairgun lite, whatever) to my phone thingy.  As long as I have battery life, and don't somehow shoot the phone, I'll probly be ok.  Haven't used it yet in competition.

Thanks guys! Great feedback as always. I have been busy on making sure I get a accurate range card and will be ready this weekend. Just need one more shooting session to adjust 2 clicks up. I started at 25 yards and worked back. I will need to start at 10 yards and work out to 25 yards. I also noticed I need to work horizontally on the paper. I shot one 5 shot group on the top target and then shot one at the lowest target; this showed me I need to work on my angle position, but was not a good technique to show the rifle accuracy. I am hoping shooting groups horizontally across the paper affect vertical poi less and may only affect drift. I am amazed at the accuracy of Chairgun Pro (of course once I remove shooter variation). Here is what I have done so far.

Disco muzzle velocities to find best efficiency

This is so simple it is silly   Relabeling my focus wheel today   Doing it this way never crossed my mind and just seems so right.  Thanks !!

If you change shooting velocities......this is, perhaps, less convenient.

I put masking tape on the wheel first.....then mark all my ranges by focus on the tape......then make a drawing in CAD according to the tape......then print it to scale on an Avery 5126 postage label, cover it with packing tape......then use this cool paper cutter that my wife uses for scrap booking to cut it out.  Peel and stick.

I have a yardage tape drawn in CAD, too......so if it was ever needed, I can print one and slap it on in a matter of minutes.

Well, I would like to start with the scope cap, but my only concern is that it will be difficult to see and I have my scope focused so I can use it without my glasses; I am concerned about Parallax if I use my glasses with the scope. Anyone know if parallax can be created from eyeglasses and the scope combined?

Ivan.....you should be able to detect if there will be some parallax error at your focused position by moving your head around while looking at the target.  If the crosshair moves off the target as you move your head, you are not optimally focused.

Always focus at the maximum magnification that you can.....then rotate back to a lower mag if you want to.  It's easy to introduce parallax error when focusing at low magnifications.

I think you should not have a problem with parallax error when wearing glasses.

For distances 10 yards to your zero you may want to consider using 1 yard increments.  Then switch to 2 yard for distance after zero.  Some match directors like to put itty bitty kills at odd close in yardages.  I've even considered half-yard settings for 10-15 yards.

While this type marking is VERY HANDY ... it is SUPER velocity / weight and zero range dependent in that you change ANY variable the correction becomes invalid.
* When you simply work up a scaling where DISTANCE is on the wheel, That NEVER CHANGES and can be used with many dope sheets that can be made up for different pellets/ velocity / zero range etc ....

BOTH ways work yet differ greatly in flexibility
