392 ?

It's pretty obvious that I just jump right in and buy a gun if I like what I see. I might even read a reveiw or two first but not likely. Thought about the great resource available to me at GTA and why would I not use that. So here we go.
Walmart has The benji 392 for 139.00. In my opinion, the 392 is one of the ugliest guns I've ever seen, I just got to have one. The problem that I can't get past is: I have these high velocity gun and I shoot the heck out of them. Alto I haven't venture into the realm of the .22 cal yet, and I do have a Daisy 880 (not that I'm comparing), what would be the advantage of me owning a 680 fps pumper. Trust me, something tells me that I want one.

I could be wrong (and often am), but I have heard there are QC problems with the 392/397. I too have considered both, but with all the poor reviews I can not pull the trigger because the pellet may not hit the spot.

I have a 392, and even with QC problems they are worth every penny. Most issues are easy to correct, and as long as you dont have a Bum barrel, they are great guns. I also had a 397... miss that gun. And if so you also need a sheridan. Buy an older, used, proven shooter. You will never regret it. 680 fps is plenty for most house and back yard uses, as well as hunting out to 50 yards. The feel of a Benji/sheridan is unlike any other rifle... about the same you get with a lever action gun. they are easy to point, powerful enough (these guns have been hunting and pesting since the beginning of last century). Pumping is very therapeutic... go easy, slow pumping and reflection go hand in hand. The sights not so good, so if you master them, there is a sense of pride in that. Scopes are OK, but they are just as out of place as on a winchester 94... The way to go is a peep sight. My sheridan will drop pest birds out to 40 yards with the peep sight on... no problem. The wood feels good... 150% better than synthetic stocks... Listen, there is no other reason to add that gun but the fact that you dont have one. I also have a 880, heck, i got 2, metal receiver ones... and a 22sg..., and 2 custom 13xx guns. I also modified and resurrected a powermaster 66 and now i am working on a rifled crosman 761 xl... you can never have enough pumpers... it just feels good, the way a Box Chevy nova witha small block feels ... tight, fastish, and looks that only a mother could love.

As you can see from my list of air guns I love pumpers Here's my top 5 reasons to own a multi pump air rifle.

1) Simplicity, No tanks, just pump and shoot.
2) Accuracy, They are so easy to shoot compared to a springer.
3) Longevity, They last for decades before needing a reseal. Both of my rifles are over 30 years old.
4) Variable power, 3 or 4 pumps for plinking and 8 for varminting.
5) Flexability, I can shoot any pellet I want including 32.4 gr Eun Jin's.

I've been (re)bitten by the AG bug pretty recently when I discovered my son's 397PA and put a few rounds through it and got all giddy.

I actually grew up shooting the silverstreak version (.20 caliber). Same as the bluestreak only in high polished chrome.

I agree that it is a rather ugly rifle but dang, you cannot deny it's accuracy and ease of use.
Seriously, no Co2 cartridges to keep track of, no tank or pumps to buy and haul around and no recoil and 'heft' of a springer when out in the field.

Just give it three quick pumps and plink away. Pump it 4-5 times and dispatch mice, rats and birds.....pump it 8 times and drop rabbits and squirrels all day long.

A 392 is on my list to get and I actually have an email sent to Boyd's gun stocks to see if they inlet for any AGs.  If not I'll order one that comes close to fitting and finish it out myself.

If that doesn't jive, I know there are plenty of supremely talented craftsmen on this site that can make a stock for me.  And yes, I think that highly about them that I would be willing to spend the money for a custom stock.

Take that for what you will concerning your decision.

I grew up using a Benjamin 312 in .22 caliber, I shot it thousand and thousands of times. I gave it back to my older brother that gave it to me when I was 8 years old.

I recently bought a Benjamin 392pa made in January 2013.
I removed all the finish, so it is polished brass.

I have no issues with it, I added a Williams peep sight, it. Makes a world of difference.

I would suggest if you get one, use a solvent to remove the overspray from the muzzle end of the barrel.

Do not use a bronze or very abrasive brush in the barrel, they are solid brass, and very soft.

Best use patches only.

With a scope I can make 50 yard shots all day long.

With 3 pumps I can hit a 1 1/2 inch steel disk at 30 yards all day..

Great guns, feel great, shoot great.
And definitely like the look of the polished brass.

Give in to your urges.

I agree, but if I was able to look a new one over real good I WOULD BUY IT TOO!  If you need to buy unseen, trust the seller or look for a older model.

I have not done a lot of business with these guys other than buying some pellets but this sounds like a great deal.

R&L Airgun Supply, rlairgunsupply.com has remanufactured Benjamin 392's on sale for $104.95.

Their return policy seems reasonable but not as good as PA.

Just went to R/L. You are correct but, they were out of stock. It's all good, I satisfied my urge for an ugly gun with a Crosman 1377. Grabbed it new from Amazon for $55 and free shipping. I reckon Betty Lou gets those new boots she wanted.

R/L probably had arefurb 1377 for 35 buxs... you gonna tear it apart anyway... You know... i walk into walmart just to remind me of what the 1377 is supposed to look like...lol

how do you like the powermaster 66? i just changed mine to the single shot frame, worked the pump and tighten it up... using new 664 plastics (shorter and black) with the black barrel shroud. I love that gun.... It shoots superdomes at 540 with 10 pumps... but is fead on at 20 yards. I shoot it open sights and love to carry it on the field...Is like a rifle comfortable 1377... I love the powermaster 66.

I haven't shot that one very much. It pumps good and shoots well but, it's missing the rear sight and the scope on it was junk. I rescued it from the local pawn shop for $20. I took it out side and pumped about 8 times and put a hole thru a pop can at about 30 feet. I knew it was salvagable. Since then my collection has just been growing like crazy and I work too many hours. I shoot or do something gun related everyday so, it will get it's day in court.
