Howdy, I'm CoyoteJoe, I live in central Colorado near the Royal Gorge and I'm new to this forum but not entirely new to air guns. As a pre-school brat I briefly got to play with a German Military trainer an uncle brought back from the war. It looked like a Mauser and cocked like one but I had to use my foot to step on the bolt handle to cock it or pester my grandfather to do it for me. It had a little depression on top of the receiver which held several BB's under a pivoting cover. My mother soon decided it was too powerful for a kid of 4 years so she gave it to an older cousin and I sure wish I knew what became of it, probably it was ruined, it was too fine to be a kids toy.
 So then I was permitted to play with a Daisy single shot which cocked by breaking open like a single shotgun and the BB was dropped down the muzzle. I thought I'd made the big time when I got a Red Rider repeater.
 Many years later I got into "adult air guns" with an RWS-27 and an HW-35. Funny thing is I also got a cheap Daisy 880 with a cheap little scope and it badly outshot both of the more expensive spring guns. For a pellet trap I used a Tupperware cake saver stuffed with Beaman's Ballistic Putty. Shooting at 30 feet from prone with the Daisy I could fire one pellet into the putty and use that as a target for ten more shots. That little rifle would stack ten pellets into one fused mass the size of a pencil eraser.
 I've long ago parted with the spring air guns and the original Daisy wore out but I now have a replacement Daisy which shoots pretty well but not like that first one. I am now thinking of getting back into an adult air rifle. I don't need high power, for hunting I would use one of my .22 rimfire rifles with sub sonic ammo. I'm mainly wanting a highly accurate target rifle for practice in offhand shooting to keep me in shape for summer competition with my muzzle loading rifles where only open sights are permitted. My Daisy 880 is much too light and although it shoots pretty well with a scope the open sights can't be zeroed. I also want it quiet.
 Now here is the zinger, I have to keep it under $250. Suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi, Joe, and welcome to the GTA!!  I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions for options.  My suggestion would be to check with Mike at Flying Dragon Air Rifles.  I would look most seriously at fixed barrel rifles, probably in .177 caliber.  The Gamo CFR could be another candidate.  Happy shooting!

Welcome to this fine forum of airgun enthusiasts. Lots of expertise here. Like you I'm also new to the forum.

My fun goto air rifle in .177 caliber is the Russian made IZH-60 made by Baikal. Low cost, accurate, light weight, trigger that impresses all users, and can be had as a target pro version still within the price range you mentioned. There is a similar model called the IZH-61 that is a repeater (5 shots). I have them both, but I prefer the -60 version because of its accuracy and simplicity.

Which ever model you go with, rest assured that their will be several people on this forum that can help you.
