My First 100yd 10 shot group

After seeing a recent post of a TX200 group at 100 yds, I thought i'd have a go - never done this before, and have only shot this Prosport on about 4 occasions, over the last two weeks, since purchase - this is my first group -(P.S. - I don't shoot paper apart from sighting in normally - i was just interested in what would happen) ;-) - the centre target 10 shots were used to adjust the scope lateral, plus workout holdover, which was a bit of a guess with the duplex reticule, but it worked out at a very precise "two slats of the pallet!"

 . That's what I'm talking about.  Going out this AM and sighting in my TX as I got new rings. Also ordered a bushnell 6X18 50AO scope due in next week.  . I don't know if going from 12 to18 power will help much, but it couldn't hurt.

Good group, Fuzzy Fruit, your gun will get better and better as you shoot it.

It will help if you cut down on the morning coffee otherwise it will look like you are trying to hit a moving target at the higher magnification

Yes it is a great group just saying from past experiance that hold over and accuracy are more difficult when shooting up hill at distance. Back when I shot long distance 500 to 1000 yds with 30-06 and 7mm rem Mag I hated up hill shots

That was with the simmons 6-18x40 SF, I find it a difficult scope to use, compared to the 3-9x40, much more critical eye relief distance

I must admit that I have never considered the uphill asect, although the slope is what they classify as "flat or Level" over here! - less than 5 degrees - thats what i love about forums replies, you never fail to learn from them, thanks

This was at 19.30hrs, approx 45mins before sundown, I had done about 5 doubleshot large flat white coffees during the day, ground from some beautiful organic beans, locally roasted, and with fresh milk taken that morning from our house cow, I wondered why i could see every heartbeat in that reticule at 18x!, nd I thought it was from belting int hose two steel Waratah fece posts, 3' into the ground,  to hold the pallet vertical ! - again, used to hunting in the field, not used to being that relaxed at trying to hit a precise stationary point on paper - more enlightenment to consider!

I'd be happy with that.

I was quite happily surprised for a 1st attempt, but would be happier with 5 shots at 1" resting on the top of a fence post (which is the most usuay thing I hve to hand in the paddocks when hunting) - I'll work on it.

I see you've got six rabbits and a possum in your avatar so you must be a good hunter too. Maungaturoto sounds like an interesting place. I looked it up on Wises online map and see that you're roughly half way between Auckland and Whangarei. You're lucky to live in a place like that. I can't wait to get out of the Wellington and retire in a small country town.

Next up is 120m (adjusted to 125yds), then i run out of field for backstop!, (means more travelling to the rear paddocks, where i could getabout 250m safely, so that should be enough), I only discovered mildots a couple of months ago, so am getting used to using both, also, only dicovered that Airguns could work at 100yds + yesterday!, Fuzzy fruit is high in Vitamins & energy! I'm happy with that. also i am comfortable with mixing the imperial and Metric measures, as i grew up with feet and inches, but used to usually deal more with 10ths of thousanths, and microns, in precision finishing.

North is good, a cheap place to live, but middle and south of NI  is also good, possums are everywhere that 1080 isn't!,  its too hot up here for the trout, but very comfortable for winter fishing & hunting, this will be my first summer "seriously" hunting up here, I do believe if you wanted a bush paradise with a hunting income, it would be feesible up here, i have nearly 4kg of fibre to weigh in from occasional hunting (just pest control) since Febuary this year, funded my Diana 48 .25!

Just a point,

It makes no difference if you are shooting uphill or downhill when shooting for a group.  If you are aiming for a target you would normally hold alittle under in either case.  The steeper the angle the flatter the trajectory.  Think of it like this, if you were in a hot air ballon and shooting straight down there would be no arc, or if you were to shoot straight up in the air, the pellet would go in a straight line till it lost energy, no arc.


It would seem that your area is hilly.  It looks and sound very nice, could an old Duck and his Better Half retire there reasonably?  How much are humble homes?
