Aluminum is out...Steel is in.
Believe it or not it is much much easier and better in every respect The elasticity of the Al seems to be causing havoc both in surface quality and edge detail at a sub .001 level.

Isn't alum easier to cut / surface finish versus a higher modulus?  What's causing your issues?

Can't get enough relief on the cutting edge of the cherry to get free cutting.

Not by a long chalk... I see 60, but for Bob, make one cav with 60 and one at 55 and see which he likes better.

On the design in general, the wee boat tail looks useful on two counts. It gets any base damage from the sprue cutter away from where the rifling engages( I hope ). I'd suggest a nose pour example, but Bob likes his hollow points. I did some casting and shooting today, and the RCBS RN boolits with the best bases flew the best. Full fill, and sprue plate grind marks in the base with little enough smooshing that the last drive band sized completely. Dimes at 50 yards for 8 shots instead of quarters. I would really like a cutter plate with smaller holes... Certainly for the Lyman .22's. The NOE 225107 is .1, and the Lyman and RCBS are .150...

OK, OK, I'll cave, you can use the 60* countersink for the sprue well.... Since there IS only one cavity we won't be able to experiment....

and if for some reason you don't like it, you can go to 90 degrees Bob...if you start with 90, going to 60 might be more difficult. I suspect the settled upon angle will be more like 64 and 3/8 degrees.

LMBO...and err...No, unless I draws the cherry. And 60.000+/- 3 degrees is fine wid me. Which BTW I would not mind doing at some point. A nose pour that would fit into an Mrod mag would be mighty fine.
