I continue to be pr etty happy with the $219.00 I spent on my Umarex Octane. My chrony says that it consistantly chunks .22CPHP at 26+ ft lbs, which should take care of the coon business with a well placed shot at any reasonable distance.
I agree that the trigger pull is a bit too heavy, but I have not experienced the trigger hitting the trigger guard. In the sub $250.00 range, as we all know, quality control is hit or miss and your mileage may vary. I went through several Trail NP rifles before I found one that was a keeper, and I would caution against generalizing based on firing one example rifle. Your requirements for a new air rifle will help you narrow the field, just like it did for me. My primary requirement was for power first, accuracy second, weight third. There aren't that many air guns in this price range that have the power of the Octane, so the not so good trigger had to come along for the ride. Even with its faults it is better than the Crosman trigger which we all love to hate. If power is not your primary concern, there are guns out there with much better triggers, but will not have the same power in this price range, so it boils down to what you intend to use the gun for and what features are most important. If you do however, find a blaster that has the power of the Octane, a good trigger, doesn't need to be mounted on a rail car like the Hatsan 135, and falls under $250.00, I will be the next in line to buy one, and you will become a legend on this board.
Hopefully not too much error.....
