2289g-5moa TruGlo tube sight vs NcStar 3moa reticle sight

My stock 2289g w/steel breech kit was shooting 3.5" groups @80ft with the 5moa TrueGlo 30mm tube sight.
My stock 2289g w/steel breech kit now shoots 2.0" groups @80ft with a 3moa NcStar tactical 4 reticle sight.
This was done using ten pumps each shot for three shot groups several times. I was seated and used my window jam to steady the 12" carbine.
I first zeroed these sights @30ft and was getting 1" groups.
At 80ft the Crosman14.3gr hunting pellets are staying in the utility pole.

At 80 feet, you should be getting 1 inch groups or less. Try some different pellets, clean the barrel, check the crown, and run some pellets across a Chrony to be sure you're getting consistent velocities. Inconsistent velocities would point to a seal problem  (piston cup, breech, or bolt)

           I think I'll put the 24" barrel back on. I took the transfer port out and fitted a piece of poly tube in its place hoping to increase air flow. I'll put the seal and transfer port orfice thing back the way it was to see if it helps. I don't have access to a crony.

Search is your friend.

Barrel length has little to do with accuracy or consistency. And there's nothing wrong with using tubing for your transfer port, as long as it isn't leaking. Hold your hand over the transfer port area when you shoot the gun, or place a tissue over the breech and shoot. You should be able to tell immediately if you have a leak in that area.

Do a search for "barrel crowning" to find some common ways to clean up the muzzle end, and check to be sure there are no burrs at the breech end, particularly at the transfer port, that may be shaving the pellet as you load it. You can check this by pushing a pellet through the barrel (from the breech end) with a dowel or cleaning rod and inspecting it closely. This test may also give you insight as to the condition of the rifling of the barrel.

Just picked up a lightly used PC77 and a new 1322

Stock using the peep end of the sights 1" groups @ 20-25 yards  with the 1322 sweet...

The PC77 well not so good all over the place...

A quick inspection of a friends 1377 American Classic  that he just took out of the clam shell had the same Q.C. problems as my PC77 (1322 was smooth at both problem areas)

So if lead in is smooth and no burrs at port,

I can think of one other possibility,

but am pretty sure it is not the case...

because 2289 forgrip design unlike  1322/77 design,

does not encourage,

Never curl fingers around barrel to pump...

The barrel band is always suspect on the 2289. If you are using the stock one still, that could be the culprit. Mine drove me crazy until I shimmed it up. Accuracy was all over the place. If I could afford it I'd get a Bluefork of Chavka band.

Good call soolio. A metal barrel band is on my list. I don't want to spend $65 on one thou. My pump handle roll  pin keeps working loose also. That will cause my barrel band to move making the barrel move. Who has best deal on metal barrel bands in the States? Thanks

I'm back again. I free floated the barrel by removing the barrel band and fired a pellet at a tuna can nailed to a tree 80ft away. The clang sound let me know metal hit metal. Yep, that cheap plastic barrel band is making me shoot marksman instead of expert.

First thing to order for me was better pins, wish they were here already.

was trying to tune my PC77 today  and see if it liked ultra mags and it was not cooperating...

my 1322 got its 1399 stock today and still getting great groups at 20 & 25 yards Premier hollows just a touch better than Crosman hunting points.

From day one out of the clamshell the 1322's barrel has been so loose in the band as to be free floating.

I made a better bore light( out of dollar store led reading light) and noticed I have a small ridge at the end of the lead in.

 I would work it down, but, will very soon have the 14.5 barrel and steel breech.

 hope she stays accurate.

 I think with careful handling & storage it is possible to float the longer barrel?

True but I will not leave my 2289 like this. I spent some time with no luck looking for a state side vender that has both the flat top piston & valve kit and a metal barrel band. No luck looking at there web sites without a wait. To bad that vender in Canada can't or won't ship to the States.(ScopesAndAmmo.com )

I also ordered a Barrel Spacer to help tighten things up...with the shims and the spacer, the band is holding pretty strong. I still want a metal barrel band and solid roll pin tho

Barrel Spacer part # is 1300-A008....fits 13xx and 2289;)

Thanks for the part #. I have the spacer on my 1377 I bought a few years back. My 2289 is doing 1/2" groups at 30 ft now with the barrel band removed. I need to order more parts tomorrow if I can find them.  Stopped by the hardware store today and bought some 10-32 acorn nuts and some 10-32 bolts for a temporary fix for the roll pin.
