Turkish Longbow Innards

  Well i'm pretty pumped about the pretty new longbow that paul is going to send me, every review and pic i could find said it's beautiful gun, lightweight and medium powered. Most reviews also said that if they took it out of the stock, they found unfinished inletting and unfinished metal. If they went farther and took it apart as Gene did, it was badly finished metal and poor tolerances, a general mess for a tuner. I have no idea if all the guns are as rough under the surface as the one he tuned but i'm ok with it either way, it sounds like a good one for me to strip down and figure out. My question for those who have dealt with this gun, is where do i find a spring and seal as no one seems to list the turkish models? Any other comments about the disassembly or inner workings of this model would be welcome.  Thanks  J

That comes out to about 1.08 inches if my calcs are right.

 It's my new bigbore ... on that site joeK mentioned(thanks joe!) they referred to it as "Zmniesznie odrzutu Hatsanie", i'm not sure what to make of that yet but it probably has something to do with the 26.75mm measuremeant given but i'm not sure as both the kurdish language and millimeters confuse me 

  It does come with a lothar walther barrel though so hope fully it will be closer to a .177 bore. You seen some big barrels pete?  J

That would be compression or spring tube bore, not barrel :-).  For perspective, Gamos have a about a 25mm bore, and the Diana's are 28 IIRC.  Depending on how long the tube is, it should be capable of making some pretty good power.

Depending on the type of seal, a Diana seal might fit.  I have a new one here, I'll check the diameter sometime today.  If it's a flat faced seal like the HW's use, they come in a couple of different sizes as well.  I also have a bunch of springs in various sizes, when you get the rifle torn down, get me some specs on the stock spring and I'll see if I have something that will work.  BTW, all my springs are JM's, I ordered one of his Tuners Assortments awhile back.  Sounds like a fun project, I was just looking at a Tommy Paul has on the YF, tempting, but I have too many projects on hand right now :-).  Keep us posted.

 Thanks Joe and Thank you Dave, that all sounds great and as soon as i can get it in hand, torn down and miked, i'll let you know, the compression tube appears to be MUCH shorter than the one on the tomahawk but even if i'm limited to 7-800fps i'll be fine with that so long as it shoots straight and makes consistent power. Might be because it appears to be so attractive but i'm really looking forward to getting the internals in good order and printing some groups with this one.. plus i've always wanted to try a hatsan, sand in the lube or not.. J

I was able to get some parts for my Hatsan from ARH.,The newzealand forum has some good info as well as the Polish link that was already posted

JM did stock a good spring for. Longbow/Tomahawk. The seal you will have to resise if you buy one from JM unless he makes them now.

The seal I use in the Hatsans with the 26.75mm tube bore are=

but they can stand a bit of resizeing...will work as they come but
takes a while for them to brake in/free up...

My reference was for a genuine UK Webley/Scott Tomahawk main spring. Seals need resizing for sure..

 Fantastic info and link Pete, i never made the connection claimed in the link that says undersized seals cause broken scopes and springs. They also said to use the largest sized pellets possible for the bore to soften the blow of the piston slamming home in guns that had a small factory seal. Makes perfect sense and all the more reason to replace everything i can inside.  J

The reason for all that is because the pistons in the Turkey Longbows/Tomahawks are like sledge hammers. very heavy. Makes for a very harsh shooting air gun..
