Hey all,
Just wondering how you guys quiet down the annoying "whack whack" sound while pumping up your 1377 / 1322 / 2289 guns ?
I've been using my newly built carbine to do some late night ratting in the back yard. Pumping it at midnight or 1:00am is not very neighbor friendly.
I seem to remember someone (I think maybe it was Tater) saying to use a strip of felt or something ?
If that is your favorite method/material,.. are you putting it inside the pump handle ? OR , Are you sticking it to the bottom of the pump tube ?
Are you guys using any other methods/materials ?
I was wondering about maybe using some RTV Silicone Sealant to fill in some of the hollow areas of the pump handle.
(sort of the same idea as stuffing foam rubber or squirting expanding foam into hollow rifle stocks)
Hopefully this could to help eliminate the "amplifying effect" that the big fat plastic 2289 handle seems to produce / contribute.
I realize that the noise is also there with the original pump handles too,... it just seems even louder with the back packer handle.
So tell me what you guys have tried, to reduce the pumping noise.
Various materials ?
Positioning and placement ?
Pics ?
Thanks in advance for any replies !

I put a strip of the loop side of industrial strength velcro where the handle meets the tube. Usually it meets at the end of the pump (farthest from the pivot point) I can now pump mine up without any sound.

Hi There
Foam tape, or a piece of sticky backed foam weatherstrip, works for me

Don't know if I read it here.I was at Walmart last night and bought what is listed as (Super Sliders). There peal and stick design. Used on the bottom of chair legs so not to scratch the floor. Mine came in size1/2 x 2 5/8. All that was needed is a piece half inch square. I applied it to the spot where the pump handle was hitting the tube.

A piece of inner tube glued to contact points changes mine from TWACK to thump.

I use the soft side of Velcro stuck to the pump arm. Sometimes two layers. Quiet as a TKO

I've found that my fingers between the pump handle and the gun takes away the sound of pumping: The cursing sounds you make may have to be muffled
somehow to make it all work. Neal39.

Mole skin, Felt or bicycle inner tube all sound like they would do a great job of muffling the cocking sound.

it's Great stuff here ! Love the fingers idea.
Been there, done that.
Thanks all,
I've got some Double sided velco tape, Hook one side, Loop other side that snugly fit between tube and barrel. Giving that a try and doubling thickness. It's working well so far, and I will probably end up "Hot Glueing" it into place.
Thanks for all the replies

I remember back when I was a kid my old Silver Streak had a couple felt bumpers on it. They were peel and stick about the size of a Dime, they worked good at muting the clacking noise, I replaced them a few times over the years. Most any hardware type store has them by the cabinet parts, handles, hinges etc. Didn't have Velcro back then but as was mentioned a strip of the fuzzy stuff on the pump or tube I would think would work fairly well.
