Beeman 97K Tune Kit..Which one?
«

I am pulling my hair out over my new 97K... it is just not doing what I want. i.e. shooting a good group. I might put 2 or 3 pellets in or near the same hole, and then the next 2 or 3 in a Galaxy Far Far Away! I finally thought that my new scope was going south, so I put on another scope..... same thing. Just to make sure I didn't have the shakes, I would switch to my HW95 and put them virtually into the same hole at 25 yds. I've got to do something so I'm now considering a tune kit. I find the gun so hold sensitive that it is just not fun to shoot. Who makes the best tune kit for these guns... I would like to move a 14.3 gn pellet at 650-700 fps, and do it smoothly.... around 13-14 fpe.
Thanks for the recomendations

I have a JM kit in my .20, 77 doing 700 fps with JSB's. Very smooth. Have you changed the breech seal? Being new it might still have excess lube burning off as well. My 77 is far from being hold sensitive. I have kept a pellet on the scope turret while firing it.

Hey Snake!! I have a PG2 Vortek full power kit in mine. After break in and finding her preferred diet....she is just awesome!!! Shot some groups today. All at 50 yards with JSB Heavies.
Check em out. The Gamo card is 20 shots. All he rest are between 5 & 12 shots.
Did you try some heavier pellets???

I'm eatin my heart out Joe.... you and your new Rifle make a good team. Those are the kind of groups that I want. I've beat this horse hard and for some reason just have not been able to make it run. I'm going to order that kit and give it a try. Tnx for the feedback.

Joe..Yes... I did try some Heavier pellets.. 15.4, 15.9, 16.2 and 22 gn. They all did the same thing. I also went down a few gn, but nothing HOLDS! They will group a few.. then jump way off. I checked the scope mounts and locks, and finally changed scopes to a Known good scope... Fact is (and I hate admit it), but I think it has become worse since I cleaned and lubed it. I was very sparing with the lube. Any how... I have a Vortec kit on the way. I ordered the standard kit (15+ fpe). Should know more next week.

I also have the Vortek PG2 kit in my Beeman HW97K. I found that the H&N FTT 8.64gr .177 shoot best in mine. It is also NOT hold sensitive at all.

OK... I got the Vortec PG2 kit installed. The new Breech seals havn't arrived yet, so I turned the one that was in there around.. Both sides looked the same to me. First thing I noticed was the substantial decrease in noise. I fired a few shots at random just to make sure everything was seated. I didn't set up the Chronograph.. will do that some time later. I got the box of pellets out to find out what was going to work best... I know that it's a bit early, but after all the trouble that I've had I wanted to see some improvement. Well, I certainly did see improvement. before I finished for the day I had shot several groups well under .5 at 25 yds. I ran 14 different pellets through the gun, and ended up with what I started with as my favorite.... the Crosman 14.3 HP. One thing that I did notice was the the gun was not as pellet sensitive as before, and it doesn't seem to be as Hold sensitive. There were several pellets that shot pretty well. So... even though the Kit seemed to be a little pricy for what was in it, I must say that at this early stage of things, it does appear that it is going to work, so.... I guess it was worth it. It's very early in this game, but I hope that things hold true.
Just a note... Even though I have a good deal of mechanical experience, and a bit of Gunsmithing, I still screwed up the re-assembling of the AR with the new Vortec kit. The sleeve around the spring must of course go into the cylinder, using the spring compressor. Well, it does not just guide itself into the cylinder all by itself. Even though I was watching for it, it still caught on one side and I had to trim it back 1/4" or so. It's not a big deal, but I can see it happening often. Vortec should give the installer a Caution about it in their instructions.
(Yes Mark.... I know.... go to my room!

Good news gone bad.... I thought that things were shaping up... now the scope on the rifle has bit the dirt.. I'm wondering if it might have been the problem all along... don't know. This whole thing is turning into "Soap Opera"

Joe.. I did that... I have a cheap Winchester scope that I mounted up and it zeroed right in. It was strange... I was trying, yet again, to shoot a decent group. Got two shots that were touching... the third shot didn't even show... My first thought was that it went in the same hole... then the fourth shot... still nothing... I was pretty sure at this point that all three of the last shots didn't go in the same hole. I went up to the target (25 yd) and about 4" below the trap there were two pellets in the post... I went back and shot again... now there was three pellets in the post. I held a good 10" over the target, and was on the paper again.. but just on the top. I adjusted the the elevation to max up and could get on paper about 4" low. All this happened at once.

Nothing like the roller coasted effect!! Up an down!! Time to break out the chrony. If you got one? That should tell what the gun is doing power plant wise and breech seal playing. You can shim the breech seal. My 97's are both trouble free and sweet!!
If one is going to play DOCTOR one needs at least 1 really good scope for back up. The 97 should not be hard on scopes.
Just keep on looking. Nothing like hunting the ghost. It will drive CRAZY.
