I got my ding dong from harbor. We have had an armadillo tearing up the flower beds in front of the house. I set one of the ding dongs up over the flower bed. It went off a couple of minutes ago. Dead Armadillo !

Thanks for the tip guys. I think I'm going to have fun with these ding dongs.

I too have rat issues, and am up against the same things you are!

I have a light too, I went black light and it works, but needs to be a little brighter... The light on my guns are too bright and send them running FAST!

I am trying the PB/Nutella mix.

I have been having problems with the .177 doing the job too. I need quiet, so I'm limited to my 1377 at about 10-11 fpe. FINE for head shots but I have yet to get one with a body shot. This is the buggers RARELY offer a stationary shot!!  I have sent a doz flipping thru the air or doing the spins on the ground only to have them get away. Yet with the .22 at 15-16 fpe a hit kills. BUT its too loud.

I 've not had the ding donger sing to me in 3 or 4 nights.
 I know they are out there. . . . but they are not getting on the station.
 going to try and change up / freshen up the bait tonight.

 I may have to set up the Mrod inside on a table. It's been a while since it got to spit some lead.

Ok, I've got 2 dongers set up now.

 One is ground level, 6' away, pointed straight at the chicken feeder, and it's surrounding "Lay pellets" spillage.
 Other is on the bait station.

Tonights Menu:

Appetizer------- 1 big spoonful of Creamy Peanut Butter, smeared directly on the Bait Station floor,
Main Course --- 1 whole slice of wheat bread, soaked in tonight's Chicken / Gravy juices,
Dessert --------- Hot Lead Sundae (all you can eat)

Tonight's Tool of Choice :

1377/22 Carbine, 20 pumps, 4X32 cheapy scope, CPHP 14.3,
  Range : 23 yards

Maybe I should run up to the gas station and get some.
 Each time I've walked out there tonight, I can here 1 or 2 run through the chicken wire,... So they ARE out there.
 But don't they do the  "Grab and Dash" with the Sunflower  seeds ?
 Maybe stick them in the PB ?

You know what would be fun for this thread ?... If we had a nightly check-in of the "Rat Pack" Boys. LOL !

 Everyone would post up the different nightly baits used, if they worked well, lighting type and distance from bait, etc.
We might start seeing comparison patterns, and what gets 'em coming and sitting still long enough for a shot.

Have you ever tried using some Maple Syrup as bait ?

Ron, I did just that.
Mix peanut butter and sunflower seeds, but not too much PB.
The rats totally ignore the PB.
No, I have never tried maple syrup. Is it any good?

 I didn't go get the seeds.... no ding dongs tonight I guess that's what I get for being lazy.

No rats!
The reason for that was a possum in the Orange tree.
I didn't shoot it, just chased it away.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Not a one...  I don't know some days they are everywhere others nothing...  I haven't ''baited'' yet I just let the chicken feed do the ''callin''  I always see activity after fillin' the trough.

 with a few tiny bits of meat still on it and a few good sized chunks of fat

 The Dongers were staying silent and I was getting depressed.
So in the interest of personal emotional salvation, I snatched up the little carbine and took a walk out to the coop.

 Just as I approached, there was the distinct twang of a furry terrorist scurrying across the chicken wire.
 There in the darkness, I realized we were locked in battle,.... and I was at a disadvantage.
 For I could not see, and my adversary was in his element.

 I had only to rely on the will of my instinct to survive.
 There was no one to help.
 There was no one to call.
 I was alone.

 I knew he could see me, I knew he was watching me.
 I could feel the cold chill of his beady little stare.
 He was there,... planning his attack,... and I knew only one of us could emerge victorious.

 I shook off my fear, and gathered my wits.
 I knew this would take focus
 I knew this would take skill
 I knew this would get ugly

 The only thing I had to rely on was my fine GTA training.
 And with that,... I knew,... I would survive.

 I turned towards the last known enemy position, as I shouldered my weapon.
 My thumb reached towards the switch of the barrel mounted light.
 I knew not, where my quarry stood, and there was no time to waste.
 
 It was now or never, my choices were none, I had to act now.

I pressed the switch to bring this to an end.
 The darkness broke with a eerie red glow,
 And there before me, framed in the orbit of my scope, was the object of my duty.
 
 He dodged behind the corner of the coop, but I knew he'd not gone far.
 I held my ground and paused my breath.
 Moments felt like hours .

 Then, as time seemed to stand still, he peered out to commence his attack.
 It was only for a moment, and in the next he would be on me.
 But as if an angelic choir was in the air, the cross hairs spoke to me,
 They said,
 "Now",... "Now is the time",.." Trust in your training Luke",... "May the force be with you"

   I only have this one shot, I must make it count.
  As I squeezed, I hoped that I was worthy of the task.
 The lead was now on it's way, I had done all that was possible, I could do no more.

 Then that glorious sound rang out of the darkness,
 T H W A C K !and I knew I had achieved my goal.
 The impact was solid, The trajectory was true.



 
Dessert has been SERVED,
 Safety was restored, and my emotional salvation was successful.

 All is well,
 Civility has returned for the night.

I shot one but it ran up the tree and I couldn't find it.
Hopefully I'll find it tomorrow after it drops out of the tree.
I know I hit it, but it wasn't a head shot .
I have to take body shots because they are so skittish.

That's a great story, Ron!  I laughed several times.

Your strategy reminds me of a figurine my grandmother had.  It was two buzzards sitting on a tree branch.  The caption beneath it read, "Patience my a__, I'm going to kill something!"
