Cr-p!!! I shot two rats tonight and both of them crawled off into the thick brush and I could not find them to get a pic. I know, no pic no kill(s).

They are so darn fast by the time you pull the trigger they are already changing directions. I know I hit them because they slid sideways on impact and then slowly crawled away. I will smell them in a day or two.

F, will probably be another week or so before another decides to risk it.

What weird folk we are. We spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on our hobby not only in guns and ammo but weird things like a ding donger. We set up game cameras and we build bait stations and invent all kinds of baits to lure our prey. We spend time setting up our shooting station with all the accessories, tools and luxuries we deem necessary.

Do we do this for a prized animal? A trophy? a score? No, we do all this for the king of vermin, the plague and flea infested rat!!!

Yes indeed, we are a strange brood.

And I love it!!!

Been away from the forum for a little while and just came across this thread, I saw your post and it made me LOL.  I  had been thinking about myself this way and how some of my other friends would not understand. now I just need to get a ding donger for night time pests, at least those are relatively cheap.

I have Black rats to shoot, but I want Brown rats!!!!!

up here in reseda we got both kinds,took me a little while to figure out why they looked different,some have long tails &short tails,colors not the same,some lived in trees others burrowed.at least they eat the same food(bait).at first I thought they were the product of store bought escapees breeding.

in some ways a rat is the ultimate trophy.
one of the few that can be shot and tossed, no need to do anything,like catching and releasing fish
 unless your in a third world prison,then its a delicacy

I agree and it took a spell to wrap my mind around it.  We have had chickens not going on three years. My wife DISPOSES the rats. She complains of feeding then and them being dirty filthy creatures. But she too is a shooter and I think is secretly enjoying dispatching them.

One day I will snap a pic of her with the rifle at the window!! LOL

I don't like the rats but LOVE SHOOTING THEM. Makes for a target rich environment. If they go by by. I will need to look for a chicken farm or caw farm that needs rat eradication like I see on Utube.  One video I was had thousands of rats and they shot over three hundred ONE NIGHT!!!

My wife says she will disown me if I actually do this, but I have been contemplating contacting the local city dump of my little town to see if I can dispatch some rats.

I'd even do it for free!

You probably WOULD need to ask now a days, but this was just something you did in spare time to HELP reduce the population!!  in another lifetime... Of coarse you could ride your bicycle with the 22 on the handle bars to the dump then too...

 Man, I am so "Rat Depraved" right now,.... That I'm almost gonna feel sorry for the next one that is in my crosshairs.
