Just a quick question are there many shooting Hunter Class Field Target competitions on the forum?

If so I would like to hear from you.

This has become a very popular sport in Scotland /UK and is steadily growing across Europe and I am very keen to hear from all.

We have quite a few member here on the GTA whom shoot FT /HFT.
Tho rules of HFT in the UK and the USA do differ in power limits, game still plays the same.

Do share your thoughts, ideas etc ....

We have an HFT Division in the US but it borrows a lot from FT. The differences when compared to most other HFT rules:

1) We allow focusing of the scope and using that for range finding. But since we only allow the scopes to be set at 12x, other methods of range finding are also beneficial.

2) We allow seated shots.

3) We allow bipods/sticks rather than use of the lane markers and terrain features.

4) We do not give points for face plate hits. That does not really affect how you play, just the scoring.

I've been shooting US style field target in piston hunter class for several years. While the PCP hunter class seems robust, the piston hunter class participation has been waning for a while. Here's a link to the results of a recent North Carolina State Championship match. This club is a new club with only a few matches under it's belt.........

There were 12 PCP entries and only 3 piston entries!

I have decided to try Field Target shooting. I attended the DiFTA shoot last weekend( August 23). I like a challenge and I already have the gun and scope to compete in the piston/hunter class.

The class seems like the best way to get started without breaking the bank.

I have my shooting sticks and bucket and have begun practicing shooting from this position.  I have about half of my trajectory graph made up so I can use the mil dots to aim and the focus wheel for range finding.

 I am using a browning Leverage for now. And looking forward to getting a better riffle.

The next shoot is September 13.

Why frustrate yourself further .... gauging range and precision hold over / under is a game best played with optics !!

Actually the first and only time I tried, I shot fun class. I shot 54/98, I did not finish (got a DNF) and left 14 points on the course. I also used a mono pod instead of a bi pod. I had a great time, I am not shooting against others, but just doing it for fun. Why gauge range, just shoot and will the pellet to the mark you want.

         I attended the second half of the Mason-Dixon shoot at FTRPA about 50 minutes from me. Next season I'm coming down your way so I can shoot the whole match. Hope to see you there.

     IanT, The best thing to do is go to a match, and talk to the shooters. FT shooters are a great bunch of guys, and always willing to help.
