Half Fox-Half Grey????
«
on:
December 04, 2010, 07:25:49 PM »
I shot this nutter early this am while hiding in my uncle's barn.
They are stealing his corn and he wants me to get as many as I can.
As you can see by his color or markings, he looks to be half grey squirrel and half fox squirrel to me. What do you fellows think?
My weapon of choice is my trusty 1377CQB, "close quarters battle".
I call it that because anything within 25 yds or less is no match for its accuracy.
And in the dim lit barn, that big ole 42mm red/green dot is just the ticket.
Even with my other PCP's and springers, this gun goes with me everytime I hunt.
Its just so handy to have with me and I use it ALOT!
Can't wait til next time I get to go back.
Thanks
Ray

Great shooting and pic bro and depending on your area in the states the coloration will vary with the Grays some have a nice Fox nutter strip down their backs. But... Ma Nature has been known to mix and match when it comes to breeding.

Ray, the gray squirrels here in west tennessee will get a reddish tint to them sometimes in the fall and winter. I don't know where you are located but here that would be considered a red-phase gray squirrel. They also come in all black and all white-phase, too. I've gotten a black but never a white, though I saw one while fishing a few years ago. I thought it was a kitten at first!
Great shot! Kill some more and lets see if they have the same coloring.

The red/green dot holds up fine to the pumping.
Its a perfect match for using the pistol version, and also works good when I bolt on the crosman shoulder stock.
Thanks

Nice shooting with the pistola Ray! That's definitely a Gray. Most of them have some brown and/or orange on them. If you are in the South (or out west) which I think you are, or in a state with a warmer climate, they never really get their full grey/white coat, unless the temps really drop in the Fall and winter.

Nice to see someone perfectly employ a red dot for squirrel hunting.
I just put a Leapers red/green dot sight on my Ruger Blackhawk.
Should make my aging eyes better able to hit their mark.

Well let me see. Flat Top piston, polished and ported valve, softer valve spring to make pumping easier, polished barrel lead in, stoned and polished sear, lighter trigger spring, crosman long steel breech, mellon long probe bolt and handle, 14 inch barrel, 2289 pump arm, E-clip pivot pin mod, and TBL coating.
With 7.9 grain CPHP's it will average 580fps with 10 pumps, which is way better than the factory stock 465fps. It has done 728fps with 30 pumps. I usually hunt with 15 pumps. The longest kill shot was a 44 yard head shot on a rabbit. It goes with me on every hunt, no matter what else I take with me.
Thanks
Ray
