Can you buy an RWS 34 with Vortek or OS kit installed?

It is not difficult to do yourself. You could have it drop shipped to a tuner and have it done. Just contact the tuner and arrange it.

If I ever wanted to work on (new spring and seals) the model 48, is it any easier or harder than the 34?  And is it less hold sensitive than the 34?

I'd like to hunt rabbits and squirrels with it, but will probably do more target shooting than anything.  My personal range is about 30 yards max..  I'll need a lot of practice before I'd shoot at a squirrel past that.

Also - would you get this gun in .177 or in .22?

The OS kit in the 34 (.177)  is a perfect choice. Marc has been doing his homework.

The 48 is not near as hold sensitive as any of the breakbarrels.  That's the prime thing that converted me...my consistency jumped up immediately.
I actually set one directly on the bag and grouped well with it.  Can't do that with a 34...or most B/Bs.    Everyone who owns one,  will tell you how well the M48 balances in hand and shoulders quickly.
I've had both calibres and sold my .22, after seeing how well the .177 JSB heavies did. You won't be undergunned in .177.  The cost of pellets is the only thing I see.  You're personal choice

The short stroke of the 48 as compared to 34 is the main contributor to it's accuracy. Same as 30 VS the 50......I love my 48...just have de-tune it bit more.

The 34 is SLIGHTLY easier to work on. With the 48 you have to undo the linkage from the cocking arm tension rod to the compression cylinder to remove the cylinder. This is the safest way to change the breech seal. An OS kit for a .177 is a perfect match. If you are thinking of getting the 48, I would opt for it in .22. The larger caliber will make it easier to shoot. The extra weight should help with any "hold sensitivity".

Thanks guys!  I think it's going to be the 34 for now - as it fits the budget a little better.

What do you think of this gun in .22?  I like for the ease of handling bigger pellets.

I'll shoot her stock for a bit, then look at the OS kit.

I like my .22 Panther. No problem hitting the 1/2" kill zone on my resettable target at 25 yards from a rest.

If you have physical challenges then by all means, go .22
If not, look at FPE with each calibre and judge your thoughts on their differences at accuracy, drop and fpe downrange.  The same spring will be used either way.  Chairgun can help you there...as well as Sharpshooters website,  to get a relative comparison.

Kinda mixed signals on tight budget tho on some of the posts.  The Pellet count in a .22 tin,  is much less than .177 tin of the same make/quality.  Typ. is 200-250 vs 500.

C'mon, guys.  He is talking about a 34.  Who can go wrong with one of those??  OK, take up a fund and donate the cost difference if he simply must have a 48.

If you don't want to install a kit yourself, have the gun and kit shipped directly to John in PA.  Does wonders with these guns.
