It might be that the stock moves a little up and down a spacer on the butt of the grip will stop that. Mine will shoot like that without the spacer in place. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I have installed a spacer so the stock doesn't wiggle at all. The sad thing is, my brother's carbine Stock 2240 with 7.25 barrel will shoot tighter groups at 20 yards than mine. And his doesn't have a spacer yet.

Is there a way to clean and lube the CPHP? I have heard that it yields better accuracy...

from back the day when crosman wadcutters had enough lead dust to make you sneeze...

when I felt the need I just put the dish soap right in the packet with the pellets...enough soap to
coat all the pellets when I stir them with my finger then I flood the packet repeatedly to rinse,
after I think the soap is gone, I let the water trickle in while I stir the pellets with my finger for
a couple minutes.

to dry, I tip them on to a big fluffy towel and spread them around with my hand for a minute then
put em on a short stack of paper towels and give em a hair dryer sauna to sweat em off..

put a couple drops of oil (back then {70s} i used trans fluid) on a pie tin and rub it in real good with
a finger and roll the pellets on the wet spot..beware they will start to oxidize very quickly

given my recent experiences with CPHPs (disclaimer: the walmart variety),
I wouldn't trust them in any airgun. break in fodder at best..

Can you say problem fixed!?!?!?!

Turns out the barrel really needed to scrubbed, and I mean scrubbed. I used a nylon brush and pulled patches through it. Three scrubbings, 58 patches, and one hour later, I have groups again.

Wahoo!

Here is a group I just barely shot.

20 pellets, 20 yards. Chapstick cap for comparison.

So now that I'm feeling spot on again I decide to try and hit a penny at 30 yards.

Nuff said.

From what reading I've done on the site I have picked up one common thing. When your accuracy degrades, first clean the barrel. You will need to shoot a bit to lay the lead back down but your accuracy should return.

If you don't have a Chrony but want to check the velocities, call around to the local gun clubs, gunsmiths, firing ranges or paintball shops. Someone probably has a chrony or knows someone who does. Most people are very willing to help.
I did this myself a few months ago. Called around. Found a guy with a chrony. Went to the range and chronyed the rifle. He was a nice guy.

as far as the cleanliness of the pellets goes, I've read several differing opinions. Some say its the release agent left on the pellet and therefore harmless. Some say washing the pellets strips the protective coating off and is actually detrimental. Some thing I tried and seems to work well is empty the tin, wipe out the tin, loosely sieve the pellets for any casting flashing left over, put about 100 or so back into the tin, add 4-5 drops of a lubricant called 'white lighting' (found at wally world's bicycle dept. for chain lubrication), roll the tin around a minute or so, repeat process until all pellets are coated (again, not much lubricant needed) and leave them exposed to the air for a while so the chemical part can evaporate off leaving the lubrication on the pellets. Seems to work well

But then again, it would appear you've figured out the issue already.

glad you figured it out. i rarely clean my barrels. this is cuz i clean and lube my pellets. i saw you asked about it. i just dump the can or box on a couple paper towels thick and spray them with a pure silicone spray. i roll them around by holding the edges of the paper towel and ..well you get the idea. don't know if silicone is ok in springers though. i wipe out the can and put the pellets back in. fast easy and effective. no build-up on the pellet and keeps the barrels slippery smooth.
