Cros NPSS....seal

Well I got my seal from Crosman in 5 days and had all the de-burring and and everything ready. Install went without a hitch and got it ready to shoot. Put the scope back on and set it up for a 10 yard test shot. The target had a few holes in it from the 177 so I had something to concentrate on let one rip. The hole just got larger. Same with the next hole & etc:  I'm just happy as I am shocked......and pleased!! Took the screws out and put blue goo on them and put the gun up for the day. Will shoot for a bit tomorrow and do a Chrony test to compare to the one before the work. I like shooting this gun and the 22 pellets sure are easier to handle.

I think I asked you this before - but how did you get a seal for the NPSS when it's not listed in the parts yet? I got brushed off a couple of times -the old "not available yet" reply.

I called them and ordered it by number. I got this information by emailing them of what my problem was and explaned to them that I was tuning the gun and all I need to finish was the seal. A lady named Jan helped me and was very nice and helpful.
CRS5177-012  seal.........$1.15 /4.00 shipping. I got 2 as long as I had to pay for shipping. Seal was easy to put on and a perfect fit.

Hope your job goes well. Another thing Crosman should do is get rid of the cheap plastic trigger guard. When you torque down a little bit to tighten up the screw it squeezes right through the plastic. Finally got tired of messing with it and took some aluminum stock 1/2 inch wide and made my own trigger guard. Not quite as pretty as the plastic one but a *(&^ of a lot stronger and serves the purpose. I have 4 different pellets to put through it and weights to 21 gr. The first shots were CHP's 14.3.

Thanks a lot Dale - my seals are on the way. And I agree with you on the trigger guards. Was working on a friend's NPXL(if my memory serves me correctly) , and the screw went right through the guard. Luckily, I was able to fudge the hole back into shape enough to hold the screw again. Now if we could only talk the guy who makes the gold trigger into some gold trigger guards.........

Good idea Mark. That would add some real class to the gun. I was looking through some of my lost junk yesterday and came across 15 bags of jewelry bronze I used for making arrow rests back when they were just new to the game. This would make some classy guards. He sure makes a great trigger.

How long befor you guys needed to replace the seals? I just recieved mine two days ago...should I order new seals now and avoid the rush?

I was getting flyers all the time, 4 good shots then one way off. I thought it might be the seal, so I checked and there was a nick out of it -probably during mfg. process. That was my reason for wanting one

Just thought I would stop by and add to your running post here on the Crosmn NPSS. I own two of them and they are great builds. In fact I have written a review on them relating to the fact that Crosman actually over built these babies.. When I say over build I mean they could of skimped allot on the piston design, action tube and a few other things. Simply put the NPSS is a tank of a gas ram and the Benji Trail NP is not nearly as stoutly built as the NPSS was. Do not take me wrong on that statement. The Benji Trail NP's are great guns and well worth every penny you spend on them. They even put a picanany rail system on the Trails. That is one vast improvement over the Crosman NPSS. I will own one or two of the Trail NP's when they come out with the lam stocks...

Back to the NPSS.... The NPSS is built here in the good old US out of Crosman's New York facilities. They now sell the Crosman NPSS under the new name of Remington NPSS.

Don't be surprised if Crosman stops making these jewels. Since the cost his higher here in the US to produce them and there profit margin is lower I would imagine they would eventually move on to another model. Of course outsourcing the manufacturing to China like they have done with the Trail NP series. So hold on to your NPSS sweeties because you may end up with a high collectors gun..

Great to see more discussions on the NPSS. I think they are fantastic guns.

Don't forget about the new CBR Trigger available from CDT.

You know David my memory is getting real bad these days.. I cannot remember but Gerald had bought one and he told me where to get it.. But I have forgot.. Just bought it a couple months back to.. I will check and see if I can find where I did buy it and if I dont forget before I finish this post... hehe
