Another Remingtion NPSS question
«

I think I would like to open up my Remington. It seems like it has a rough feeling to it when I cock it sometimes. I read that some NP need spring compressors and some do not. Does anyone know if this one does and what are the tricks to getting this one apart. Or is there a way to get some lube to where it needs to go without taking it apart.
I have read alot and now I know enough to be dangerous.
Just need to get to the next stage...

the story with most NP's is that the tube rubs... Gene has made a NP repair kit, so to say... for like 17 bucks, that should resolve this. see the following link.

if i remember, the NPSS started gene on the gas rams... and started his tinkering with them.... I did shoot is modd'ed quest and NPSS, both were unbelieveably smooth... whoever bought that gas ramm'd titan/phantom hybrid he sold a few weeks back, certainly got a fantastic gun.

there is no drop in kit for the npss.... the ram to piston clearance is way to tight it would require machining to make a sleave fit
and YES they do require a spring compressor to take apart....
that being said you have two options..... if you want to sleave the ram then you need to open up the insides of the piston a bit to make room.... or you can do a good debur and polish and relube with a good moly on the insides and call it perfect....
Hope this helps

Thanks for the information. Now something I notice is the lever that connects to the barrel and the other end connects to the bear trap assembly has a slight bow in it. It bows out to the left and back in as your looking at it from the bottom. You real have to look at it to see it.
I wonder if this is how it is suppose to be. I believe thats the names of things. Also the bear trap assembly has some wear on it.
I am starting to get a bad feeling

The reason you feel the rubbing is the outside of ram housing is rubbing on burrs inside of piston. The fix is to take gun appart using spring compressor and deburr slots inside piston. Then run emery cloth inside to smooth it out. Use moly on last inch of ram base. That is all the moly you need on ram. Also smear a tiny bit of pure 30 wt silicone oil on ram shaft. Then put moly on front of piston just in back of seal 1" and some on back of outer piston 1". Lube very sparingly.
NO GRS Kit is made for the NPSS.
Best of luck
You may want to look on CDT's webs site for basic lube tuning concepts
