I ordered the gun yesterday but while I was browsing this morning I noticed a weird or maybe an outright lie.

The gun I ordered from PA said the cocking effort was 24 lbs, which basically what I have heard or read before, but today couple websites had the effort listed at 18 lbs. (never heard that before)

I had also read that the 24 lbs might have been exagerrated a bit and maybe should have been more, which did not disturb me. The 18 lbs was a bit much though. Another interesting thing was said, it was the S model but was not stamped with an S. I knew nothing about an S stamp or lack of one.

The current 50S started life with the designation HW99. The old 50 had a low cocking effort around 18lbs. The current model is quite a bit more. Because of the articulated cocking lever it feels like 30lbs. With it being discontinued Weihrauch changed the name of the 99 to 50. The "S" denotes the Rekord trigger. My 50S isn't stamped with the S either but it has the Rekord.

It's easy to cock up to that last couple of inches....feels more like thirty..
It's the configuration of the cocking lever . Would be nice to have a revamping....but all in all you couldn't get me to give up my 50s....Happy to hear you're getting your own. Lol

I did a copy/paste of that tidbit of info, I have mind like steel trap but each year it gets a little rustier so saving a little history is a good idea.

Yes indeed, I had heard it was beefier than the 24 lbs, Geeeze you want to have fun it should not be stopped by a liitle effort.

It was funny the 18lber might be an older model but the price was $415.00. With PA's 10% my total was $350.07 they deducted the 10% but then no free shipping, It still was an adequate savings from the 379.99 price.

The old 50 has been out of production for years. PA used to list two 50S's. One with fiber optic sights and one with inserts. Same gun different sights. They listed the old cocking effort on one.
While it is harder to cock it is still a fun accurate gun.

Yes I saw the fiber optic pic in PA they had the "It Was Unavailable" ad. I actually would have preferred the fiber optic and asked if it could be put on. It was a "no". I've never shot using a cowl sight how different is it.

Target acquisition with the front "cowl" sight is quick and easy. I'd just as soon have one, as one without.
I don't see any advantage of one over the other, nor disadvantage.

Great shooters! My HW50S in .22 is very accurate. You will love it! I agree with others on the cocking. Feels like 30lbs ,but still easy to shoot all day.

Your 50 should have the new fancy stock.

Thank you s10 for the pics, if Fed Ex does it's usual thing it should be here by 2:00 this afternoon. Will be running a few patches through it and checking all screws etc. Something I have not done before (pre forum days) Always assumed something new should be tight when you receive it, I know better now from numerous posts read.

My 5 year old Quest had the 1st checking of stock screws this year and did need some tightening, same with 18 month old Whisper. You can see why I carry the user name "Not brightest Bulb"

A good thing to think about is doing a JM insert mod. Stops the double jointed cocking linkage from galling the compression tube. Easy to do. Tons of how too's here on gta.

Well the beauty is here. Pics aren't good, but gun is. Gonna have to learn how to operate safety as other 2 rifles had manual.

1st thing that really surprised me is when I was checking screws for tightening (none did) they are all regular screw heads, no allen wrenches needed. It was suppose to weigh 6.8 lbs and it weighs 8.2 lbs, but I understand that the wood in stock varies a bit affecting weight. Anybody else notice a weight change in their HW50.

Tried the open sight Cowl and at 30 feet all shots in half dollar and this was with me forgetting to push safety off and restarting so I was pleased, the cocking was no problem but you have to shut it with a good snap as it is tight.

Do not like cowl sight at all because it would definitely be harder get munk in the sight. Question about the cowl sight, it appears there is just one screw on right side of sight and I'm assuming loosening that screw releases cowl sight, am I correct.

Thank you, I have a small rubber mallet that I can use for tapping. It's weird this is like an old school rifle everything is metal/steel. It's got a Made In Germany stamped in it.

Aside from a tad more leverage to cock gun what would a muzzle brake do. I know on a PB it helps somewhat with recoil and maybe noise. What does it do on an airgun. Remember my name is "Not Brightest Bulb In Box"
