My best Air Hawk group ever

I got home late last night after two hours of interstate traffic and wanted to shoot a little to calm my nerves. The first 5 pellets landed so nicely I put the gun down and went to bed with a grin.
10 yards, hand supported on a bench rest.

Good shootin'. Can't imagine I'd even be on paper after 2 hours in traffic.

Good shooting. By the look of that target, shooting settled your nerves. Way to go.

Don't get much better than that. I have two Airhawks and have never shot a group that tight.

with the right hold and that something we all look for the rifle can do it....most problems with the rifle are due to a shooter that needs to learn how to shoot them.

I can get a decent tight group from mine, but that posted group is uncanny.
I wish that I could get em all tight enough to touch, I'm more like quarter sized.
I don't spend enough time with the darn thing though to shoot it better.....

I think I can do a little better than that.
27 yards 5 shots (benchrested), the coin in the picture is a UK 5 pence piece (about the size of a Nickle) and covers the group completely.
B25 in .22, thumbhole stock (like the Ruger Airhawk Elite) pellets were Crosman Ultra Mag. The scope is a Nikko Stirling Gold Crown Airking 4x12x42.
Some days you get lucky, but the luck increases with practice.

When I start out a group with four great shots I usually get so excited I blow the fifth one

Zoiks!! That is a nice group Steveiep. And on the bulls eye to boot.
Which gives you the best results; Rest the gun on your forehand with your forehand supported or placing the gun directly onto a rest? I'm going back and forth experimenting between the two and haven't decided what creates the best result. I've read some good things about paint rollers and built one myself but my AH was not happy about it. Sometimes I get good results with a rolled up towel or foam directly under the gun stock but more consistency comes off hand.

My "Baby" (AH), treats me with groups like that when we're really getting along. She's SUPER hold sensitive. For us, I start by touching the pad at the base of my index finger on my left hand to the end of the cocking slot in the bottom of the stock. Then, I lay the fore stock across my open palm which then rests on a home made bench with bean bags under my hand (it feels slightly off it's balance point, but she doesn't like it when I try to hit the exact pivot). Cheek weld is way too strong a way to put it, I have to have more of a butterfly kiss on my cheek. But like I said, if we're in synch with each other, she can make me smile.

When I bought the AH (my first AG) a couple years ago it was not hold sensitive at all and would consistently shoot softball size groups at 50 feet. It is now hyper sensitive but that is OK with me because the groups have gotten much smaller. hmmmm I may have that backwards.
Blue,
Welcome to GTA (this place rocks) and thank you for writing about what I am just now learning. In the last couple of weeks I have started to think about how the position of each pad on my palm is interacting with and supporting the gun. I just stated over the weekend watching my palm make initial contact with the stock so it can repeat to the exact same spot. Ditto BTW on my AH not liking the center of balance pivot point either. It likes to be "front heavy" too.
