Mystery Guns!?!

My next door neighbor was saying something the other morning about having only one gun that anyone knows about.  He has other guns that are not known about by any "agencies".  He is concerned that some day in the future, some authority figure will show up at his door and demand he surrender all his guns.

Since I am a member of this forum, it would be only logical to assume that I do own at least one gun.  But you may have noticed that none are listed.  THAT IS BECAUSE I DON'T OWN ANY.  That is my story and I am sticking to it.

This is not meant to scare anyone--only to give pause for thought.

It already happened in Australia recently, and the UK a while back.  Why not here too?  Why do we think we are so different than everyone else?  They won't come knocking on your door.  All they have to do is pass a law asking everyone to surrender their semi-auto/repeating guns.  They did it in Australia.  I am sure not everyone turned their guns in on that continent, but then you leave yourself open to all kinds of potential problems if a neighbor reports you, or someone happens to discover an illegal firearm in your possession.  We cannot afford to get comfortable and say "I don't worry, it will never happen here".  We need to be prepared, vigilant and get involved.  Vote for the politicians that serve your interests, and contribute to the organizations that lobby for us and fight gun control.  If we get complacent, we will be the next Australia or UK.

Many things have already happened to law abiding citizens.  For example in NY this year, law abiding citizens cannot have more than 7 rounds in a detachable magazine.  5 rounds could be their agenda next, or guns with internal mags, and then even worse..  "They" won't sleep until they take away more.  Why should we?

This took a turn I didn't expect.
I'm all for guns. I've been shooting guns of some sort since I was a kid.
The post I made was about air guns.
I don't think any authority figure will show up and search any ones house for air guns only.

In the morning NEWS, it was stated that the US Government would run out of money unless something is done.  Ahhhhhhhh, we no longer have to be concerned that they will be coming to get our guns.  Right?!?

Jack, I seriously do not want to target you or anyone else individually, but this is not about disrespecting anyone.  It started when my neighbor expressed deep concern about being denied a right granted to all Americans in the Constitution of the United States (specifically the 2nd Amendment.)  He was very serious and I certainly didn't laugh at him then or at any time since.  I posted here so all could take a moment to consider the possibilities.  Up until now, it seems to me, this thread has brought out some serious issues and possible questions.  If you feel that you need to joke, I respect your right to do so.  RIGHTS is what this thread is about.  Thank you for your post.

I think this is a pertinent thread, and I join the OP's neighbor in his caution.

Folks got a real laugh out of me, for over a decade, because I insisted that it was smart to behave online as if someone could see everything I do. Not a whole lot of laughter now...

I have destroyed a few helmets, while wearing them. I'm a big lid fan. When the helmet laws were first being considered, I warned everyone who would listen (and annoyed anyone who wouldn't) with the statement "If you let them do this, your cheeseburgers are next". The results were predictable.

You don't have to be psychic to see where this is all headed. A simple understanding of the allure, to some, of the ability to abuse power over others, will suffice.

Close to home.  Happened in Toronto, Canada a few years back after a spate of gun shootings from criminals.  The police checked the long gun registry and went knocking on gun owners' doors.  Even without a search warrant they went in to check if all firearms were "Secured".  The ones that were not trigger-locked, in a safe or separated from ammo were confiscated, and the owners were fined and now have a criminal record.
Not one firearm was confiscated from known criminals.

Of course not one gun was confiscated from a known criminal, silly!! Criminals aren't entirely stupid.  By definition they are criminals because the break the law.  If the law says to register your weapons do you really think they're going to obey the law?  Since the police acted from a gun registry the known criminals were not visited.  They probably didn't even have any long guns to register, only handguns kept safely on their persons.  They probably don't even register handguns in Canada because they may not be legal for citizens to own in the first place.  I guess it pays to stay outside the law, just don't get caught!

Just a side note re comparing Hitler's Germany to gun control.  Nazi Germany was awash in firearms.  Shooting clubs or "bunds" were everywhere and attendance was practically mandatory.  One small rifle, the DSM 34, was emblazoned with "sportmodell", although it was a scaled down K98 style gun.  I'm not sure how many thousand "trainers" and small bore rifles were produced, but every gun manufacturer was cranking them out.  Hitler didn't work his mischief through gun control, unless you count the guns in the hands of the SA, SS and Gestapo.  If anything, Nazi Germany proved that a well armed populace is not always a guarantee of Freedom.

If the populace wants that kind of leadership, and remember Hitler was voted into Office legally, the guns for protection against the government thing is out the window.

We as Americans can get very egocentric with this and forget that "other" armed societies are not armed for the founding reason we are. They do not have the context we do in our founding. In addition, it leads to some kind of false illusion that had just the Jews themselves been armed nothing would have happened. REALLY!? So 6 million people (men, women and children) would have been able to stop an army by themselves that took us, the Brits, Soviets, Canada, Aussies and other the better part of 6 years in "total war" with the loss of millions of lives combined (I am only talking soldiers on the allied side) to stop? Illogical to say the least.

I am all for our rights so don't get me wrong, I just believe we need more nuanced statements to our fellow countrymen and women when we discuss this issue.
