Test for Power XL1100

I have a friend that has a Benji XL1100 & I have a chrono. His shoots JSB`s 15.9 grn. at 883 avg. Thats powerful if you ask me. He did buy the GRTIII trigger & polished the sear & refinished the stock.All internals are stock.This is why a chrono is a good investment. You will know if somethings wrong with your power plant.It takes all the guessing out of it.

Hey I get it on the chrony, OK?  Its Christmas time and I have kids so NO buying a chrony right now.  Once I get my seal I'm going to try to meet someone and shoot over theirs.  Is it so wrong to want to do a field test in the meantime?, Like they did before the chronograph was so common for AG's? Is it so bad that I encouraged a guy to shoot up a phone book with me? I think its harmless and also a little hilarious.

hey shootstraight, I too use oddball things to gauge power . For years my dad and I have been using empty metal paint cans or lantern gas cans. My xl1100 will punch through both sides out to and beyon 70 yrds with chp 14.3  I also did the phone book thing you guys were doing and found the same results.  Mine chronys at 906 with chp14.3  ....

So I got me a benjamin trail np xl 1100 about a week ago, haven't cleaned the barrel or deburred where the piston seal goes in, I haven't checked if the seal is gouged or not, but I have about 10 pellets in the rifle so far and I shot a phone book about 3 feet away with the phonebook laying on the ground and pointing the rifle straight down at the phonebook using CPHP and I had 432 broken pages.  Comparing to your guys' results mine is weak, I am new to this rifle and I don't know where to go from here, what are your suggestions?  Do I replace the seal? and put moly in or do I exchange the rifle for another benjamin trail np xl and properly break it in, I mean like clean the barrel first before firing the first shot, and deburr, and whatever else needs to be done?

it may take time to set the seal
i havent been able to locate a big enough phn book or id test with my 25 fpe gun
after 300 shots if it isnt good then tear apart, lube, debur, installe the new seal
if ya look down a few threads i posted about my 30 yards groups and well the group speaks for its self!

I guess that is what I will do, but I will still order a seal just in case(is the macarri seal better than the original?), and I will order some moly paste.  and your groups are nice, is that a nickle or a dime that you covered the group with? by the way what if you shot your two phonebooks stacked?

so I went out shooting today after cleaning the barrel.  Don't know what to say.  When you guys were doing the phonebook penetration test did you guys count the actual pages broken or did you just look at the number written on the last page that was broken??

plywood works good my hard hitters will go through three quarter inch .if they both go through try a inch

don't have plywood at the time yet but I shot pine board, the hole was 1 inch deep.  but I would still like to have someone try shooting a phonebook at point blank with a cphp and count the broken pages.

My XL1500 will shoot through a 2x6 pine building board with rws hollow points my XL1100 will not do that it almost makes it through but is just sticking out the other side thats at about 6 foot away. Thanks David

He may not have read the replies on your post, just the question. No need to snap, he was just trying to give advice. I use clay to test my regular trails power. Mine goes through 6.5" if I remember right with the crosman premier hollow points

I'm up for the point blank test for anyone who has a confirmed 24fpe or better gun.  We were counting broken pages (not the cover).  For me the page number and actual broken number of pages was the same.  Make sense? 

Also, didn't mean to snap.  I know the chrony is the true defining tool for testing power.  I know this because I've had at least 50 recomendations to get one because of the questions I post.   I was just looking for something fun and easy to shoot and compare.

Hey Shootstraight I have a F1 chrony on the way, I got a walmart gift card from work for $50.00 so it only cost me $20.00. Should be here next week some time, then I will be able to see what my XL1100 is doing, Remember mine is completely stock just as it came from the factory except for the GRT III trigger, we can compare our test results and hopefully it will help you figure out what you XL1100 is doing.......Jerry

shootstraight what was the amount of broken pages? I ended up on page 875(deepest shot) a little above the center of the phonebook.

mine is shooting at 24-25 fpe
i can shoot a milkjug of sand(fill jug with sand to top and then fill with water put on cap and shoot for center and then insert a coathanger to measure distance it went into jug
if ya wanna try that out i can do that one tomorrow

I think you have a problem. My benjamin Trail Regular can penetrate a two liter bottle at 50 yards completly. Also, with crosman premiers, and their hard alloy, that should be a piece of cake with the XL
