Should I change my 1377 barrel?

I have a modified 1377c with FTP/Valve, steel breech kit, bug buster scope, and a 18" barrel.
 recently I began doubting the accuracy of my gun.
I have numerously tested my shots at 14 m(15yards)and I am getting like 1 inch groups or sometimes even 2 inch groups (terrible). Now, I am not entirely sure whether this is entirely barrel's fault or micro-movement that I make as soon as I pull the trigger. However, I've been reading an online article about how barrel's  uniformity and crowning effect the accuracy alot. The part where it most frustrates me is when I shoot a wadcutter pellet (crosman wadcutter .177), I get pretty good precision (1inch groups at 14m). But whenever I shoot with Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum .177 Cal (10grains), I get totally HORRIFIC groupings ( 1 inch group at 9 yards!!?).
My theory is that because ultra magnum pellet has round front,  maybe barrel's loose pathway is leaking air and is pushing the pellet off of straight path.

Hi there
You didn't tell us how old your gun is, if new then you should put a couple of hundred pellets through it to break in the barrel
Every gun with a rifled barrel will favor one round over all others, and will shoot better with that one.
I have a 2289 with a 14.5 inch barrel and once broken in it shoots 3/4 inch groups at 25 yards, and would probably do better in the hands of a good marksman, it likes CPHPs  (Crosman premium hollow points)
Crowning does effect the accuracy of a barrel, You can check with a Q tip if any strands of fiber are captured by the barrel you need to clean it up, there are threads here on the forum that will tell you how, and there are videos on U tube 
As with anything man made, it is possible to get a bad one. Maybe order another one from Crosman, they run in the $12.00 to $20.00 range. If your original tests good then you would have a spare for another project.   LOL

I don't have any experience with the LW barrels you mentioned dsa, but I have heard they really do make a difference. Like F7 said, put a tin of pellets or so through the barrel, then try out different pellets to see which you gun likes best.

I actually put around 600 pellets thru this barrel already.

Arent the Crosman Magnums (10gr) to heavy for the 1377? I have shot Crosman Wadcutters, Destroyer, Pointed and Gamo Magnum's with good accuracy with my 1377 with 14" barrel and 6.5" TKO.

I'm seeing the same thing with my new 1377 Classic. Using Crosman or RWS wadcutters at 10 yards it will put 5 out of 6 inside a 1.5" bulls-eye. At 10 yards CPHP pellets don't group at all unless you call a 6 inch pattern a group. Absolutely horrible. It makes no difference whether I use open sight, peep sight or red dot. It was even worse when the barrel was brand-new and I had only cleaned it. I gave the bore a Mother's Polish treatment and that got the wadcutters to hit the target most of the time.

I inspected the crown with a jeweler's loupe and q-tip. Can't see anything wrong with it though a new crown certainly couldn't hurt. Maybe 1.5" groups at 10 yards is all I should expect from a $50 pistol with a stock Crosman barrel.

well, I actually don't know but they are shooting horrific...
if you are talking about my gun lacking power,  I did mod my gun to shoot at 650fps or so.
I guess that is not enough to shoot 10 grain magnum pellets

There was one I bought a few years ago that did softball size groups at 10 meters...  I thought it was me at first because I'm not really good at shooting pistols but after extensive testing and a comparison to my rear cocker 1377, it just had to be the gun... There was nothing visual either... I took it back to the store and replaced it... I made sure to test out the replacement right away.. The replacement was/is a tack driver...

Then try different pellets!

MANY variables, the biggest of which is the shooter. Are you shooting from a good solid stabil rest, are you watching to see any inconsistencies that will cause a flyer? (Bad pellet, different loading resistance ETC ) Do you exhibit good ergonomics, to be able to shoot small groups? Certainly no offenses meant, not all are able to shoot well with out much practice, others may never will still others seem to be a natural.
 Then you have what your suspecting, faulty gun. Also surely a possibility. Hows the trigger? Have you cleaned that barrel? Have you tired many different pellets? What about velocities?

I am kind of skeptical about cleaning my air gun barrel after having read it is unnecessary to do so..  as for pellets I used crosman hollow-points, wad-cutter and ultra-magnum (10gr). 6 pumps each w/ ftp/valve. Wad-cutter seems to have the best precision, ultra-magnum is horrible. As for my shooting skills,
I will admit and I am a pretty bad shooter. That is why held my gun on a table( very much stable). Trigger is stock trigger.

If you haven't done the trigger mod I would highly recommend you do as it will increase your accuracy, I have noticed a big difference after doing mine. A light smooth trigger will help you hold your target.
Now it is the first thing I do on a new gun, I just rebuilt a 20 to 30 year old antique for my neighbor and did the trigger mods he was amazed at the difference.
If you still aren't happy clean and check the crown on your barrel if all is well as a last resort you may need to replace it. Do the same to a replacement clean it and check the crown.

1" groups at 14M is totally unacceptable. Cleaning the barrel with a pull through device was a very good suggestion. So was checking the crown. Make sure the screws and bolts are tight, too. Some Crosman barrels are just duds.

You could push a few pellets through the barrel and see if there are loose and tight spots. That could be followed up with various lapping and polishing schemes, and you still may have a dud. Just order another barrel; they are cheap.

I agree with the other guys.  Clean the barrel, work over the trigger,  that will help. My 1377 is far from stock but it shoots very well. I have a 12" lothar barrel on mine. The lothar barrels are much better than the standard Crosman variety but you pay for it too. A 10" Crosman barrel is what 15 bucks but the 10" lothar is over 50 . Some barrels are quite pellet picky so find a pellet it likes and work on your shooting the groups should tighten up.

Are any 1377 owners using the barrel that came with the gun? What is the expected accuracy of the stock barrel? If 1.5" at 10 yards is unacceptable I'd like to know so I can return my 1377 while it's still under warranty.

from what i read, it shoots 1 inch group from 25yards
