Hawke Sindwinder 30 preference

Sidewinder 30 was delivered today.  Sould have gotten it yesterday but I wasnt home to sign for it.  My wife is on vacation this week so we have been doing little day trips with the kids.  Probably mount it on the Mrod Friday and sight it in.  I will post pictures when its all mounted up. Thanks again Chris (starlingassassin) for the hook up. 



PS Chris the sport HD didnt come yet, its back ordered from Hawke.  I will let you know when I get it

Mounted it last night with a quick sight in in my basement.  Still need to play with the eye relief and sight it in in my backyard.  I now need to go buy a different rifle case because the "dang" turrets are too high and hit the top of my vertical rifle case.

so, if i understand it, if you use the SR Pro reticle, you have to set the magnification to a specific value.

does that mean that if you have a 6-20x scope, you are basically making it a single magnification scope or is there another magnification setting exclusive for the reticle and independent of the overall zoom capabilities?

Not if you use Hawke BRC program on your smart phone. Or you could make a couple of cheat sheets fro their computer progarm and carry them with you( or print 2 for inside the lens covers, this would give you 2 different magnification settings). But different magnification that are close are also close in yardages in the reticle.  If you have never played with BRC it a pretty neat setup.  You should try it and see.  Especially with the SR Pro reticle

i can see having a fixed setting for hunting....same power, same pellet, set the mag and forget.

for target shooting it becomes a little more complicated since you might want to use different mags/pellets/power at different distances, etc. but i now understand the concept. but if i have to look up what the holdover "line" means it isn't much different than knowing how many mil-dots to hold over....except for the fix and forget it hunting part. all you need is the range.

now if they only had swap-able reticles!

Not sure what you mean here.  You can have many different settings (user files) in BRC and with a simple on click you can easily change pellets.  If you haven't check out BRC you should.  It is like Chairgun on steroids!!

its (imo) quicker to get the correct aim point on target with the SR without looking at a range card.


when shooting mil dot reticles,
after i range a target i look at my cheat sheet to find out where to hold,

with the sr i take the range and just count down the reticle by 10's no need for a range card.


heres a pic of 2 reticle views i did for a 150yd and also a 100yd max range.

1st one is the 150yd max at 9.9x, second is 100yd max at 23.5x  both of these are for my mrod shooting jsb heavys at about 880fps.

so in theory,
if you left it on the 9.9 setting for general use and needed more magnification for target shooting,
you could go up to 23.5 and still have correct aim points without looking at range cards.

as for using different pellets youre on your own LOL
once i find what my gun shoots best i never use anything else but those in it.
