Went deer hunting for the first time

OK I will admit to being a "non deer hunting snob". It just never appealed to me for whatever reason. I went with a buddy that has some good hunting property. He and I had recently got each other back in to air rifles and plink around and shoot squirrels at his home. He said he was gonna go deer hunting with his son and wanted to know if I wanted to go along. I thought about it and kept coming back to "why not at least try".
Well, we went over the Thanksgiving holiday for 2 straight days. I had fun "with the process" even though I didn't even see a deer. His son managed to bag an 8-point one day and a niece bagged a doe the next day. It was exciting to see them get their first deer. I even helped with the field dress and getting the meat off the deer. I have done numerous animal dissection in labs and found that extremely helpful in the process. I was more into anatomy recognition than anything else and it was quite educational.
The damage from a high-powered rifle is quite the site! It's amazing how tissue turns into mush.
We even took the pellet guns along for a ride in case a squirrel or two came around .
I cooked up the back strap on the grill. Quite tasty Cut them up like fillets and covered them in Cavender's seasoning. They stayed very tender and were very good eating. We have a Holland grill which cooks with much lower temps than an regular grill. It did perfect on the very lean meat.
Can't wait to go back again!

I can see that. We get along very well together and kid an joke around a lot. Probably too much kidding around to be nice and quiet in the woods...
