Relube of Piston seal in a XL1100

I buried this question accidentally in another post. I had My XL1100 apart to work on the piston seal recently. Upon assembly what is the proper way to lube the seal and ram? What is preferred oil or grease?

i had some lube left from my Vortek kit but ya can use Die electric grease around the seal NOT in front and do it lightly
and then use Anti sease on the piston (very little)
i did it and it made my numbers alot more consistant and less Extreme spread

Hey guys I know you have to have a spring compressor for a springer to take it apart to do a tune, does this apply for a NP XL1100 to?

Light lube around the side of the seal an also on ram,JM's Moly grease for me. An "No" Jerry you do not need a compressor to take down any of the the XL's as the NP has no preload on it, just super tight the first time getting it to unscrew(most likely tightened down by a machine from factory). I used needle nose plyer's in hole's an a large set of channel lock's while my son held the gun solid in his hand's?

so is the housing normally dryish? I definitely used the wrong lube. My issues have not improved yet , crowpopper. Stay away from viper lube! Maybe my seal is worse off than i thought but I bet the lube has something to do with my accuracy issues now. I still have my spanner wrench.

Ok thanks for filling me in, I can get dime size groups at 10 yards but at 20 yards it is erratic as *(&^ really frustrating me. I have put about 1,500 pellets through her. I don't have a chrony yet but I think she is in desperate need of a new seal and deburring and a lube. From what I have read this should help tighten the groups up, at least I hope it does.

Jerry, I was getting decent groups at 20 meters. How are you holding the rifle?

Jerry C
Are you using a heavy domed pellet? 18g or more?

I think I have tried every hold know to man Cory...lol artillery hold is best. i even put a new scope on it to see it that was it (center point 4x16x40) I still have to old scope as I don't think that was the problem. I use the pellets that Cory used, as he said they held the best group they are the CPHP, CPP and CPD all at 14.3 grain. Maybe it is me but I just can't understand why at 10 yards I can get a 5shot dime size group and at 2o yards I may get 1 or 2 to hit in the bulls eye and then they start flying on me. Seems the longer I shoot the worst it gets.
