Can you fill an MRod directly from a Shoebox or do you need to fill a tank, then fill the gun from the tank?

Yes you can but it really needs monitoring to keep from overfilling.

Is there a cheaper bottle? I don't need anything fancy. I will be shooting almost exclusively in my backyard. I would just need it to fill my gun more safely, and the occasional foray to a friend's place or a maybe a hunt in the nearby woods.

If you want cheaper, then just get a aluminum scuba tank. It'll be heavier, but a lot less expensive too. You can fill them to 3300psi. You just sacrifice the amount of refills in each tank full, but still be portable.

used SCBA tank on ebay runs 100$ for about 4 years left on it and 200$ for 7ish. This is the 80 or is it 88 cubic feet tank

I have them tagged in case I go HPA and will check the sellers reviews before buying however for 100$ i am not really risking TOO much if he sells junk (i doubt he does).

I think I would use the tank for the most part to avoid direct filling my gun for safety reasons. While I am shooting I can be refilling the tank from the shoebox. I don't know if that's good reasoning or not, but maybe that is an option.

I got my scba tank from "Possum" right here on the good old GTA $100 shipped to the door. It looks brand new & works like a champ. I got the fill set up from Airhog. As long as the tank is in good shape, it doesn't really matter if it has expired or not.

I looked at this shoebox compressor. IMHO its ludicrously slow, HOURS to fill and many times needs to be shut down to cool before its finished further lengthening the time to fill...

I could see this if someone was too far from a better option. Filling from a fire dept, air supply or scuba store mush more desirable. (If available)

I have a very early ShowBox.... It now has 300 hours on it, and it's working if anything better than new.... It takes 20 hours to fill an 80CF SCUBA tank from empty (something I have only done twice).... I usually refill at 2800 psi and fill to 3300, and that takes 3 hours.... I also have a 90 CI 4500 psi Ninja tank, and that took under 4 hours from empty (once).... I usually top that off from 2800 to 4500, and that takes less than 1.5 hours.... There is NO reason to shut the ShoeBox off to let it cool, but you do need to lube it with two small dabs of grease about every 3 hours....

I initially used the wrong grease, which led to it siezing and blowing some fuses at about 20 hours, and an early first rebuild at 75 hours.... The next time it went about 100 hours, and the last time about 125 hours.... I'm a long way from a SCUBA shop and even further from a paintball fill station (3 hr. and 5 hr. round trips respectively).... so for me it was the perfect solution....

Wow, I had no idea the Shoebox was so slow. I do have a scuba shop about 30 minutes from me that does HPA. Wonder if I should just get a CF tank like this one. http://www.airtanksforsale.com/
I could go with the Great White. I know some of you use this exact setup with an MRod. What do you guys think?

Just make sure the shop can do 4500 PSI fills. Not all shops can.

Slow is relative. In 1 h with the F8 (2h with the standard model) you can take a GW from 4000 to 4500. That's a LOT of Marauder shooting... Turn pump on, go have dinner, go disconnect the pump because it's done. Very convenient. Much moreso that driving somewhere that can't fill to 4500 psi and has business hours when I'm working for the most part...

If you got a Shoebox ... but want a storage tank that is small and portable, Ninja 90 or perhaps one of the Guppy's from Joe B

The BIG tanks are great if you want air and fills are a long ways away ... sadly tho you don't back back these BIG tanks.
The small 90-120 size tanks are about 5# and 14" long fitting in a back pack. Good for 5-8 fills which is plenty for a days outing when your filler pump ( SB ) sits at home

Good point. I'd rather be self sufficient as much as possible.

Yea $5 a crack for the scuba fills vs running TWO compressors :-).

The "early" shoebox is something over $500 isn't ?? That is 100 fills at the scuba shop.
