MRod .22 vs PRod .22

Hi,

I need to get a .22 PCP. I already have a .25 MRod but as good as it is for Coon-size, it's way overkill for starlings and pigeons. I like to hunt, not to produce ground-meat...
The range will be 15-50yd and I'm heistating between a Mrod and a Prod. All inputs welcome!

... while I'm at it: anybody knows noise difference between a Prod and a Mrod .22? Is it significant or not?

Sound wise with a Jim Gaska Shroud on both there's not much of a difference on either one, I've heard both and own the .22 M-rod Myself. Without the shroud I couldn't tell you though. As for the range a P-rod will excel in the yards that you listed and easily take down small game. A lot of folks on here have both calibers in the M-rod but since you already have the .25 I would be more keen to getting the P-rod myself but you honestly can't go wrong in either choice.

I had a .22 MRod but no longer have it. Now my sweet little PRod  will be with me forever! Add a Jim Gaska shroud extension with baffles and it is very very quiet. As for power and accuracy it would be right with all the other high ranging PCPs. I took out a fox at 41 yards with one shot so you should not have any issues with what you are looking to accomplish. Accuracy is also very good with dime groups out to 40 yards or more. Just need to do my part and it will give me those groups all day long

I have both, the MRod I use for bench work trying to put them all in one hole. The PRod is almost as accurate but shines in the handiness department and is what I use for hunting. Yes its louder but that is not an issue where I live.

Norm_n and Ahab: could you comment on the Prod trigger compared to the Mrod (I like mine very much on the .25) and how many shots per charge should be expected with a "regular" tune?

Will your shooting be mainly from deck, window, etc or carrying the gun in the field?  If the former, then would lean toward the Mrod.  I like the lightness of the Prod over the heavy bulky Mrod carrying in the field.   A .177 Mrod might be a better choice for the game you mention.   Prod doesn't come in .177, but you can get a 1720T (single shot) and add a carbine stock.   The .22 Mrod and Prod, tend to have more out of the box accuracy issues than the other calibers. 

Triggers: I like the Mrod slightly better, but would not be the decision driver in the choice.  Both are very adjustable.  The Prod probably can't get as light pull as a Mrod without lawyer spring.  The curved, thin, metal trigger of the Prod, is not to every ones liking.
 
Quietness:  Hard to compare without power levels, but in general my .22 Mrod @ 30 FPE is quieter than my Prod w/JG shroud extension @ 16 FPE.  Unlike the Mrod, The Prod does not have any baffles in front of the air stripper.  Adding the JG provides for baffles.  If you need a quieter Prod, others report that there are other LDC that can do a little better than JG.

Well it will be a little difficult to compare my PRod to others as I have a Double Tube kit installed. The trigger is very good, possibly not as good as the MRod trigger but very very close
My PRod is tuned for power and I am getting 32 good shots with 21 FPE. I may do a little more to it and see if I can get 20 -24 shots with 27 -30 FPE, should not be too hard to do. Accuracy is great and it is a quiet or quieter than the MRod I had but I have to admit I added the Jim Gaska shroud extension with 4 baffles
