Crosman 600 good ?

Borrowed one today with intent to buy if it worked.it was dusty and had a C02 cylinder upside down and jammed in tight.I did a light wiping an lube with Ballistol and went to it.It shot 375 fps avg for the 2nd 10 shots and was reliable with Crosman HP's Shoots high and at 10 meters.it did about 1.5" for 10 rapid shots and looks like it wants to do better.I got  30 shots before it seems to slow down and at about 35 it was done.Are they generally this reliable and are they easy to rebuild should things go sour?

Well all was good till this AM.The kid left it charged all night and the ft seal wont hold the gas anymore.It held it all night but the next C02's wont hold.I also calculated the cost and its about .04cents per shot! That's darn near 22 rf (old) prices.Coupled with how much ammo you go though its an expensive plinker.For the $150 asking price i think I'll pass.

I got one for the nostalgia value, not for practicality or usefulness.  I still find the installation of a CO2 cartridge and the subsequent  unscrewing slightly to release the gas problematic.

Unless you really want one, the way they go through gas is a bit excessive, so maybe passing for you is wise.  Loud little suckers, too.

I'll probably have Mac1 airguns rebuild mine sometime soon just to keep it humming along until I croak.

i am having a hard time not doing the trade. because you are right it is a wondrous little piece of engineering.I am calling around to see what rebuild will cost me.

Go to the Smith Airgun Repair website. Tim and Sue resealed my 600 and did a fine job with a quick turnaround. In fact, Sue told me the gun would have been shipped soomer, but she was having so much fun shooting it.
