Attention Texas Hill Country air gunners!!

I'm looking for a good place to plink that's not too far from home.  I can't shoot an air rifle outdoors here on post.  They even sell them in the dang PX but you can't shoot 'em at the ranges here because of ricochets and you can't hunt the military reservation with air guns or shoot in the back hard in post housing (not even paintballs or air soft). So I am stuck shooting indoors, and only when I have the house to myself.  Nearest range I can go to is 37 miles and I have to punch paper.  Just not interested in driving 37 miles and paying twelve dollars to punch paper with my pellet rifle.  If any you guys who live within a hour's drive of Killeen ever wanna get together and plink, and you got a place for it, let me know.  I'll bring the beers- or dip- or a tin of CPHP's or whatever and we'll have a ball

I have herd a number of times that airgun hunting is NOT ALLOWED in Texas? Is this state wide or a county thing?

For us, AIR guns are named as OK for hunting small game and OK on any range OK for rim fire. (Most places) Back yard shooting is a by town kinda thing.  Rural folks have little worries, but folks in sub divisions/ close neighborhoods are likely SOL.

You can hunt with air guns in TX but you are limited to a list of species that are not game animals or protected, and you have to be on private land.  At least rabbits are on the list, thank God.  On public hunting grounds, you can't even hunt with a rimfire.  Centerfires, shotguns, muzzle loaders, and bows only.  Get caught with a rimfire or air rifle on public land and you are going down.  Texas is a big gun state, I am sure lawmakers have protection of the second amendment in mind when they require serious firepower for taking any game animals.  The flip side is you have to hunt squirrels with a shotgun.  Oh well, I guess.  I'd rather deal with that then have the freedoms to hunt with air guns that Californians have but then be hassled with their laws regarding firearms.  I just wish I never chose post housing.  Now, not only am I not allowed to shoot my pellet gun in the back yard, but it is isuch a hassle to purchase and keep a firearm in my home that I don't even want to exercise my second amendment rights anymore.  When my paperwork got lost I hocked my shotguns and that was that.  I had just bought the wife a nice Mossberg Bantam 20 gauge, too.  Now they are saying that soldiers who own firearms are high risk and that creates yet ANOTHER paper trail that I just want to avoid altogether.  It is nuts.  And I just re-enlisted.  Wise choice, huh?  There is probably someone being paid by the Army just to look for guys like me posting this stuff.  And let me tell you, just because you live on post that doesn't make you safe.  There are serial rapists, murderers, thugs and all types of criminals that can get on post- and some are even soldiers.  I am moving off post as soon as I can!
