Peak pellets and the Hatsan 125 .25

I wanted a cheap source of pellets to season this AG so I got some.
This AG has a new piston seal and had only maybe 250 round through it so I didn't want to use the better lead to go on with.
I'd seen many good thing about the Peaks but pretty much nothing on what the 125 would do with them.
So I'm going to post what I see here.

I have no chrono so can not give info on that part of it.

Day one.
Took a good look at the 4 packages I got and there are a lot of messed up skirts in each package. A lot is giving them credit!
No big deal I'll just sort through and pick out the best. Compared to the JSB's I had? I don't think I saved much money unless I can use them as fishing weights or paint the ends with glow in the dark paint and watch what they do at night.
Using just the iron sights, I fired at my 55 gallon plastic drum about 75 yards away. I hit once out of 5 shots!
OK maybe it's me so I loaded one of the JSB's and hit it right where I always hit it. It would be a chest shot size area.
Loaded and fired 5 more of the Peaks and never hit it once! Hmmm.
Wash a few of the best to see if maybe &^^& is on them and go to bed.

Day two.
I re-center the scope using a mirror and mount it. Using the Peaks I fire at my target at 43 yards. Not bad results but widely scattered.
Knowing it can take many more rounds I'm not messing with the scope yet. I aim at same spot get wild spreads. Still should hit that barrel though.
Fire at barrel and miss. Load JSB and hit that thing in the chest area again! Given I've fired over 20 rounds of Peaks with only 1 hit and fired 2 round of JSB's with 2 hits? Both within 2 inches of each other? It's a pellet issue. I paint 5 rounds of Peaks with glow in the dark paint to see if I'm getting spirals or what. I'll fire those after dark.

Agree with that. But I'm still interested in why/how they go wild.
I saw posts they don't work good with high powered AG's so I'm just stateing facts from what I see going on at the ranges I shoot at.
And as I find them in my AG.
I may shoot at closer ranges but that is not anything I am really interested in.
They were only intended as a throw away while breaking in anyway.

Maybe the diameter of the pellet is too small for the barrel.

Those pellets just not so good.  That's it.  Flare the skirts so that they grip the rifling properly and that's about all you can do.  Probably get better results with buckshot than those.

Well doing the glo in the dark thing was about as good as sticking myself in the eye with a burning twig.

I did the sit in the dark for hours to get my eyes adjusted so I'd have a better chance of seeing them.
Once ready I gathered up all supplies and headed off to the back room.
I proceeded to the back room with the special glo in the dark pellets as if I had A Nuke in my hands.

That's where things started to go wrong.

All fascinated with the pretty glo of the pellets I forgot there's a couple steps down into the back room!
The glo of the pellets was really great as they went flying into the air at the exact moment I did a face plant into the concret floor!
I'm pretty tough so I got up and could see the pellets and went to gather them up to finish what I thought would be an easy experiment.
I also never planned to tell anyone about this little 'hitch'.
That's when it got real bad.

I forgot about moving Frankingstand back into my shooting position so being it was pitch black in the room?
I soon found myself banging against it taking another hard fall to the floor, bringing some stuff I had on a freezer down with me as I had flayed out for God knows what to break my fall.
On that freezer was a few jars of maple syrup. I need say no more about that.

Gathering what little whits I had and still seeing those pretty glo in the dark pellets?
Yep. I went to get them. In the dark. I have, or had, a few mouse traps set up back there.
It only took the one to have me screaming in pain and flaying about which set off the other traps.
Thoses didn't get me but had me feeling like I was back in a War Zone!

Covered with Syrup, removing a mouse trap from one hand, and in the dark? I did what anyone would do.
I went for the light switch thinking 'I'll do this later'.
Now I'm a perfect example of 'procrastination'. Infact? It's my religion. Why do today what I can put off until tommorow?
Grap a light switch you didn't put the cover back on once!
I'm now in a dark room, mouse trap on one finger, hair probably burning from 120 volts doing it's thing, maple syrup flavored and the whole house just went dark from the grabbing of an open circuit!

Now if it had of stopped there? I'd have been a happy man and bragged of how manly I handled it all.
Being as that kind of stuff happens all the time anyway. Right?
No, I got cats.
They love to wrap themselves around your legs at the worst times.
Making my way out of the back room, to the basement door to fix the breaker issue?
Yep. Cats! Leg wrap! It's a LONG way down those steps and I felt every one of them!

Now I have no idea why the Cats got upset. I'm the one that fell down the steps!
Maybe tripping over them breaks some kind of Cat/Human Code I'm not aware of?
I don't know. But at the bottom of the steps I have, or HAD a few cabinets mounted to the wall.

It's pitch black, And I'm pretty sure I've died or will die soon at this point. God willing.
It never gets that easy!
I feel something against my leg and I think it's one of my Cats trying to say "I'm sorry".
So I find my lighter in my pocket, dig it out, and flick it on.
There was one cabinet left above me at this point.
It was a freaking snake and that's the only thing in this plain of life that could get me to move like I did!
There are no more cabinets on the wall needless to say.

I have 3 Cats looking at me as if I'm nuts I think. I could hear them just couldn't see them.
After about 3 minutes of curseing the snake and stomping it to death as best I could under a Bic lighter for seeing what I was doing?
I made my way to the breaker box and restored power to the house.

The snake? A rubber hose that was unwinding I guess.
The glo in the dark pellets? Still on the floor in the back room.

I think I was so intent on what I was trying to do for an honest review that I got bitten by tunnel vision.
Once things started going wrong I was locked into that tunnel vision.
That's a fatal situation for people in a SWAT or other type Unit.
I know better but it's the first time I've ever really felt how it happens.

Seems if it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all.

LOL    what I've learned in those situations stop at the first thing that goes wrong, then wait a little bit to figure what went wrong also next time use a red lens on your flash lite. on board ship at night all the red lights are on to help your night vision. have ever played cards on a 12hr watch in a gun mount with the red lights on. the harts and diamonds are hard to read in red light.

I just saw there is a Pellet review gate.
I intended a report on how my AG likes or dislikes the Peaks but if a Moderater thinks this should be moved?
Please do so and I'm sorry I didn't pay more attention.
 

Day 3.

Decided to center up the scope so I moved my target in to 20 yards. First few shots were wild so I took sometime and got into a better position.
While doing this, I noticed alot of slag on the skirts of the pellets. Alot is an understatement actually! I could scrap chunks off with my thumb nail.
So I took some 400 wet/dry and lightly cleaned the back of each pellet. They seat tight and I have to push them in a tad but I was now getting dime size groups. So I finished zeroing the scope and was doing dime groups with ease.

Moved the target back out to 40+ yards, cleaned another batch of pellets of the slag stuff and was ready to be impressed with the accuracy gained from my 'discovery'.

And that's when the smugness was quickly wiped from my face. Settling into my shooting position and taking great pains to get the proper hold, I fired a shot.
I could tell from the lack of impact sound that I missed! What the? Load another up, get set and fire. Whack! Looking through the binoculars I see I'm high and left by 6 inches or better!
3 more shots and I'm all over the place! So I whip out one of the JSB's and send it to target. That sucker hits just low of the POA by about an inch at most!

As I had a couple of computers to work on I put everything away until the next chance I have to play.
I'll pull back into 20 yards and see if I still get the dimes tomorrow.
I also have to clean up the mess before SWMBO gets home from her trip tomorrow!


On the snake thing? I admit I have Ophidiophobia. Now the reason I freaked is I found a small snake in the basement a few days earlier.
My fear is not real bad as I can be around snakes like some of my friends have.
(I still think those friends ain't right in the head but to each his own)
I've also killed and eaten a few back in the day.
Mostly I have a 'Snake Rule'.

that's my rule for me and mine on the rattle snakes in the area. did I mention about 1/4mi down the road from us there is a road called Rattles Snake Bar rd. so you can guess how it got it's name.

A couple years ago I bought 1000 of the peaks.  They were domes in .22.  They did just ok at short ranges but at over 30 yards in every gun I had shot like a shot gun.  You could see them in scopes go then dart off to one side or the other or up and down.  Up to maybe 15 yards maybe ok.  I still have some but just about totally useless for me un;less I can make split shot for fishing.     john
