So what are the advantages and disadvantages of one-piece and two-piece scope mounts?

I had a Stoeger X20S, and it came with two-piece mounts from the factory. I soon encountered a problem: the recoil was trying to push the mounts out of the groove, never mind that these mounts also had the scope stop pin in them! So, I ordered a Leapers one-piece mount, and that ended the issue. The one-piece is just absolutely rigid, and with the 4 bolts and a the stop pin, it isn't going anywhere. I would say that for any rifle of medium power and up, definitely use a one-piece mount. For low power rifles, or PCP rifles (little recoil), two-piece mounts work just fine, IMHO. I can't really think of any disadvantage to the one-piece mount, at least nothing that I have encountered.

i use one piece mounts on my springers because they provide a more solid attachment. with the recoil of the springers it is necessary IMO. with my PCP rifle the 2 piece is necessary but mostly due to the loading port. the 2 piece provides more clearance for loading the pellet into the breech on my gun. it also has very little recoil so it can get away with not having as solid a mount.
