Marauder gauge broken?

Hi guys...

Last night I went out to shoot my new .22 Marauder and the gauge started acting really weird.
I started off with 2600 psi in the tank but after shooting a clip the pressure had climbed to 2800.
After another clip the pressure had risen to 3000 and then after one more clip the pressure was reading well past the 3000 psi mark on the gauge.

After shooting one more clip it looked as if the needle was just swinging freely and it actually looked as if it had snapped off.

I then took the rifle inside and pumped it back up to 2600 psi, (according to the pump gauge) and when I looked at the rifle gauge it was sitting right on 2600 psi again.

Other than the gauge the rifle seems to be operating perfectly.

Any ideas?

I am on my 3rd Crosman gauge since August 2012. They will send you another. You can get good ones at paintball or McCarr. $10-15 each. Hey, wait a minute. Isn't that gun about 2 days old? This is terrible. Crosman issurely aware of the problems with their gauges. Did you save the packing materials?

Paintball only has the 6k psi gauge. I checked on both their sites.

If rifle is under a year old ... contact Crosman customer service and request a warrentee replacement.

I emailed Crosman this morning about getting a replacement gauge on the way. So far I have not heard back from them. The gun is only two days old so I think it should qualify.

How hard is it to replace the gauge?

Is it simply degas....remove the stock and screw the old out and the new in?
If so, I think that even I can handle the repair.

They do not respond to  email. Call them immediately. You are correct regarding replacement. The new gauge (From Crosman) will come some goop on the  threads. Hand tight (very tight). Note: Order some from McCarr: http://www.mcmaster.com/#atmospheric-pressure-gauges/=ms2pgk.....so you will have some more.

Personally would CALL and talk to a person in real time.
Yup, degas, unscrew gauge AND adapter together Once in hand unscrew gauge from adapter, reapply teflon tape screw the two back together, then gently snug up adapter back into gauge manifold.  ( watch for the 0-ring and don't loose it )

I guess I'll go ahead and give Crosman a call tomorrow since I still haven't heard anything from them. The gun still shoots perfectly so as long as they send me a working gauge it's all good.

Tonight I gave the barrel it's first cleaning......sheesh, I should have listened to everyone's advice and did it before the first pellet went down the barrel. That barrel was nasty and took probably 24 dry patches before coming out even close to clean.

I think I'll have my wife pick up some goo gone tomorrow and give it an even better cleaning. Hopefully I didn't do any damage to the barrel by shooting with all of that black, oily &^^& that was in there.

Guys, I still can't get over how easy this rifle is to shoot.
Tonight I was hitting a 1" spinner at 35 yards, effortlessly. I then backed out to 40 yards and well.....yeah.....I still have some work to do but all in all this has showed me that one day I can be good with a rifle.

After shooting the Marauder I got out my Ruger Blackhawk and moved up to 20 yards. Now granted I was using the scope that came with the rifle and to say it's not perfect is the understatement of the century. Still I was having quite  a bit of trouble hitting the 1" spinner and that is with a professionally tuned rifle, by Mike Melick.

As I said before, I will continue to shoot the Ruger every night simply because I feel that if you can be accurate with a springer you can be lights out with anything else. Besides, there's just something that is appealing about the Ruger, even though it's tought to shoot.

I took forty shots with the Marauder tonight and man.....that gun really is heavy, (especially with a 40mm Centerpoint scope mounted). Hopefully I'll get used to the weight but of course I won't be taking shot after shot while hunting.

On a side note while shooting the Ruger, 4 rabbits came within 20 yards of where I was aiming at my targets. Even while shooting the Blackhawk and sometimes hitting the spinner, none of the rabbits moved.
I had a full two or three minutes with all four sitting completely still within easy shooting range for the Marauder.
I'm really looking forward to rabbit and squirrel season this year. The joy of town raised wildlife cannot be overstated.

You can get a lighter stock or hollow that one out and get lighter scope rings, plus find a lighter scope to lower the weight. Sounds like you're enjoying it. Congrats. Hopefully the gauge will get there soon. Sometimes their items arrive fast, other times slow, so it's a tossup.

I am becoming an old pro at breaking down the M-Rod.  Simply take the stock screw out and remove workings as I call it from the stock.  Ooooo, prior to that degas!  Then simply use a wrench to lightly unscrew the gauge off and look to replace the o-ring while you have it off as well for good measure.  Then simply put new one on.  Don't overtighten the gauge.  The refill with air and check to see working properly.

I spoke with a Kevin at Crosman today and he is supposed to get a gauge sent out right away, (we'll see how quickly).
I was also looking through some old posts on the forum and came across one post that recommended Dwyer gauges and had a link to where they can be purchased.
We occasionally use some Dwyer products in the oilfield and from what I've seen they are pretty good quality. I think I'll go ahead and order one of the 3k gauges just to have on hand for if/when the new Crosman gauge fails.

I did mention to Kevin that the problem with their gauges is not an isolated incident. I also recommended that they look for a different supplier for their gauges even if it means raising the price by a couple of dollars.
Heck, I spent an extra $60.00 for my Marauder simply because I'd heard great things about Precision Airguns and they had the .22 in stock. I could have gotten it off AOA or a couple of other sites, for less money, but in my opinion quality service counts. That goes the same for quality products.

yes degas, then remove the action from the stock. remove the stem that the gauge is attached to. then you can remove the gauge and replace with new one. you can tighten the gauge itself pretty good. but the stem going back into the gauge block inside the gun should not be over tightened. if you over tighten it, it will dig in the assembly below.  i 2nd replacing that oring if it needs it or not.

i havent seen any 3k ones either. i bought a few iof the 5k and 6k ones. they work fine, no leaks. but honestly i like the graduation of the crosman gauge better.

Takes 7-10 days from Crosman.  They have been 100% with me WHEN I CALL AND TALK TO A PERSON.

So long as you have to degas to install the gauge, may as well take the fill cap off and get a "look-see" into the tube.  Gauges hate liquid.  Have found some tubes kind of oily-slimy inside, and there is always the chance of some moisture getting in...so seeing as how you already have it degassed, may as well do an inspection.

And, after clicking on the 3,000k gauge I see there is a 13 day lead time.
Oh well, maybe my Crosman gauge will hold out that long, this time.

Is the gauge that I need simply a 3000 psi, 1" face with 1/8" NPT back mount?

If so, I have access to Dwyer, Wika, Mcdaniel and Ashcroft gauges through my business.
I might be able to find something that's more readily available.

Also, would a glycerin filled gauge be better than a dry gauge or would it be dangerous to have a liquid filled gauge on the rifle?
If anyone knows, let me know.
I think I'll check into this with some of my vendors on Monday morning.

i wouldn't want the glycerin filled gauge. if it were to leak or break it would make a mess. but otherwise yes. any of those brands in a 3000 psi or higher. 1" face and 1/8" npt back mount. if you find something with a nice graduation please post it back here . something where you can be more precise about the fill pressure. with the 5k and 6k dwyer gauges its so small and close between its hard to read. thanks.

edit: missed the link to dwyer. if any of you get the 3k dwyer please post pic of the face. here is the 5k. nothing wrong with them. they work great. at the time there just wasnt a 3k i think. i would prefer something with more room between the graduations if its available.
