Hatsan Striker- First Impressions
«

Finally opened the box on my new Hatsan.
The rifle was well packed and packaged in plastic and had a light coating of oil on the steel parts. The scope and rings were also packaged together in a plastic bag.
The synthetic stock was pretty nice and had soft synthetic inlays in the right places which made the rifle easy to grip and control.
It had fiber optic front and rear sights but were useless for my 60 year old partially color blind eyes so I ended up installing the included scope. ( More about the scope later)
The first shots were really eye opening. The Hatsan felt like it had soooo much more power than my old Daisy and the recoil is not that bad. I'll run it through the chronograph to check the velocity when the weather improves.
Trying to sight it in was almost impossible due to the low quality scope. Even though the reticle adjusted to be seen very clear the target was very blurry at all distances and all powers, so blurry that the target spots were seen as double.
Instead of wasting pellets I just quit. I will put another scope on it this weekend. I have a Hawke 2-7x32 IR that I can try, then I will resume sighting it in.
So far I'm impressed with the rifle but the scope is a waste.

Dumb question, but did you adjust the thin eye focus ring, on the rear end, before you started? Might be your problem.

Yep adjusted the reticle focus before, during and after.
I have all kinds of scopes at all price ranges and this is my first time getting one bad right out of the box.
I called PA and they directed me to Hatsan. I have a call in to them to see if they'll ship me another one.

Well...to be honest.
Don't expect much in the "combo scopes". None of them. Truth.
Look for a magnum rated airgun scope, and forget about it.

You're right. I figured the combo scopes weren't that good but was hoping I at least use it a little while. Anyway, I ordered a Hawke Mil Dot 4x32 AO and a Leapers One Piece mount to go on it last night. If I do get the combo scope replaced I can use it on a 22 or crossbow or something.

You will enjoy the Hawke. Mine has withstood many thousands of shots (B19 Crosman)and has held up fine.

I think I will enjoy the new scope. The Hawke 2-7x32 IR I have on my muzzle loader is really good. I used that same Hawke on my crossbow for awhile and worked great on it too.
