You can get one of the 24" and cut it to any desired length, crown it, with a hacksaw, hand file, hand drill/ slotted screw (for crowning), blueing pen.
Easy stuff.

Without a lathe and/or a machine shop, how do you crown a barrel.  I've got the hacksaw part figured out.

 I'm having some problems with video on my computer tonight, so  I can't seem to post up one for you. There are MANY examples on youtube that you can see if you just search DIY Barrel Crowning , or just,  Barrel Recrowning.

there are a few different ways from using a dremel tool with fine, finer, finest conical or round stones, then finishing up usually with a brass screw used in a drill motor with some valve lapping compound.
 clean, then test for burrs on the rifleing  using a Q-tip. Maybe someone here can post up one of the MANY vids on it.

 I just don't know what's wrong with my 'puter tonight.
Probably have to take it over to my teenaged computer guru Mr fix-it kid.
 No doubt he will come back telling me it is a simple "ID-ten-T" user problem. LOL!

Like Ron said, there are a lot of videos on Youtube showing how to do it.  It's worth searching just to see some different tools and methods. 

Most of the ones I've seen are at one end of the spectrum or the other.  Meaning either done freehand or with expensive tools and fixturing.  I simply don't trust doing it freehand because getting a perfect perpendicular result is practically impossible.  And I don't have a precision lathe or a purpose-built crowning tool. 

But what I do have is a drill press and a Dremel tool, and with them I can get a very good crown.  Here is a little writeup that describes how I do it.

I have a hand held dremel that has a bit that is kind like a hard chalky substance. I just stick it on the crown and it bevels it nice and smooth. Most guys chuck a round head brass bolt and use a lapping compound, but this way I don't have to buy lapping compound.

Woogie, I have seen 24" barrels for sale that are NIB on ebay. The last time I checked a 24" cost about $45.00.

Tomorrow I am planning to order a 24in .177 cal barrel and steel breech to convert my 2289.  Other than recrowning it, I want to try it at the full length for a while and see how I like it.  The gun already has some simple internal power mods, and I think the boost in velocity from the longer barrel will make it a good lightweight pesting carbine, provided I can find a pellet it likes well.

Don't forget you have to get a .177 bolt probe and o-ring. That's the only problem for me. I want to convert my 2400 to .177 but I don't know what the part numbers for the .177 probe and o-ring are, or if Crosman even sells the probe and o-ring.

OP..if you're trying to save money a LW barrel may be too much. crosman doesn't sell aLW .22. they do sell 2 LW barrels not on the previously posted list. both are .177 though. one for the new challenger, i just bought two of those today from crosman $189.  the other for the maurader pistol..1720 i believe-a 12" LW.
