Luxfer Medilux oxygen cylinder.

I came across a Luxfer Medilux cylinder and I want to know if it can be converted to use for my Disco.  If anyone can answer this for me, I would really be thankful.

i'm not absolutely positive but pretty sure most wont fill it. i would check with my refilling source to be 100%. definitely CAN'T use oxygen. it will need to be filled with hpa or nitrogen.

You are def right about not using O2.  I am hoping that it can be converted to HPA.  Hopefully with a new regulator and valve.

^X2.... No O2, of course.... Valving intended for O2 should be fine for HPA or N2.... If it has a low pressure output regulator that won't work, of course, but I'm guessing that's not on the tank itself but on the output device that attaches to the tank.... You would definitely have to fill it yourself (ShoeBox, etc.) as nobody in their right mind would do that.... If they filled it with N2 and somebody tried to breathe it they would suffocate.... I would write on it "NOT OXYGEN - DO NOT BREATHE" for safety....

Just as a FYI ...
In my job get access to MANY medical breathing oxygen tanks of which I use for my portable  Mapp gas / Oxygen brazing torch rig.
* These tank when full are ONLY 2000# filled and Tanks neck clearly FACTORY STAMPED as 3k MAX rated.
So in the safety of such pressure those filling these tanks have reduced the fill pressure by 33% maxing them at 2K.

All hydrostactic test criteria of EVERY 5 years and VISUAL every year still mandatory.
** Also handling these medical oxygen cylinders it is VERY APPARENT they are thin walled and of much lighter construction than SCUBA tanks.

Honestly WOULD NEVER think of using them for our sport of PCP rifles or Paint ball guns

keep in mind in that with patience and a little leg work you can find a good used tank that is hydro tested or will pass a test, for around $100. give or take a little. with the proper valve and scuba shops and others will fill.  even if you can only get a few years out of it. you can still sale it later. i see a lot of out of date tanks sale for $50 or so. truly a small price to pay to be on the safe side.

Motorhead, if they are marked 3000 psi, would they not be hydrotested to 5000 every 5 years?.... Do they carry a 5K burst disc?.... They are quite a bit smaller in OD than a SCUBA tank, and hence they can have a thinner wall.... I'm not really familiar with them (just seen them around and never paid any attention).... but I would love to see a photo of the stamp on the shoulder with the pressure rating....

EDIT: I did a bit of Googling, and the Luxfer Aluminum tanks are rated for a working pressure of 139 or 153 bar (depending on size), which is 2000 or 2200 psi.... They do have Composite tanks rated at either 153 or 207 bar (again depending on size), which is 2200 or 3000 psi.... Just based on that, only the Composite tanks rated at 3000 psi would be useful for filling an airgun, IMO.... the aluminum tanks are too low a working pressure to even give a useful number of fills on a Disco....

I really opened a can of worms on this one, but now I know, and I hope this was informative for all who contributed to this thread...I will not be using a O2 cylinder and I will invest in a proper tank.
