There are plenty of bolts on eBay for $20. I like that stainless steel one with the magnet to hold the bolt back. I watched a youTube video on probe modding that said if you make the tip too long it will give you a decrease in fps.
Last week I pretty much decided I NEEDED a 2289.... I even went so far as to make up the order... I just did not send it. So after coming to my senses, I found a deal on a butt stock and called Crosman Monday and ordered a 24'' .177 barrel! (I'll chop it down to 14'' or 16'') Any how I decided to convert my 1377 into a carbine.I picked up a metal barrel band for the longer barrel. I have installed a AimPoint CompC scope and a FTP/V this week end I'll get the chrony out and see what I get with that.CW
Here's my carbine. This has an 18 inch barrel, a 2289 fore end, custom bolt handle, and a Gamo 4x32 scope. Also a custom muzzle brake. I also drilled out the pump hinge and replaced the roll pin with a stainless steel 1/16th inch pin and nuts. Pumps a lot smoother. Also put a lighter trigger spring in. Really fun to shoot.
I took the 177 barrel off to convert my 2240 into a 2217. Here is what I have thus far with that. Mind you, all my guns here are WIPs.

The grain looks pretty good already. Does it have a penetrating oil rubbed in already? It looks like it does. If not, rub in some boiled linseed oil (BLO) to make the grain really pop out. I've done some tool handles in cherry and walnut, and a good smooth sanding followed with BLO gives an amazing grain rendition. From there, most any clear finish will do. I prefer lacquer over polyurethane. Poly is nice and durable in part because it is plastic but it also feels like plastic and I find it to be slightly unpleasant to the touch, especially if you go with multiple coats to improve the appearance of depth.
My favorites are Linseed and Tung oils. I recently tried Danish oil and it came out nice too. But I prefer more depth, IMHO. linseed/linspeed give me that best.Tru oil from birchwood casey also does a fine job too.BUT a good finish is 99% prep. the wood needs to be as smooth as you can get it. Sand down to at least 320/400g then start with the steel wool grades, damp wetting and allowing to dry between. Even then apply a coat or two and steel wool it off! After about 5-6 coats, if you have prepped properly, you will begin to see what your going to get. DRY, LIQUID WOOD!CW
(rubbing hands together, a gleeful glint in my eyes) I have another project in mind, CW. Going to put a stock adapter and a Tippmann 98 stock on my 1322.

Going to put a stock adapter and a Tippmann 98 stock on my 1322.Ya know, I don't like the look so never thought about them much. But I was talking to a guy at the range and he produced one! I do like the way they feel! The forward grip like the AR is APEALING. Post some pics!CW
