CASA ASR Range Expansion/4-7-13 work PARTY

At the CASA board meeting this 1/4 we discussed the possibility of having FT on the ASR access Easement in an area that was not under the fallout of the shotgunners. Specifically there is an area south of where the Campers hung for the last State FT match and the property could be used for FT if we play our cards right. It was a Painball area back in the mid 90's but it could be used for FT, Archery or be left natural.
The area directly across the road is not an area we can consider as the Facility Parking lot has only that area left to expand and paving that is one of the requests they are preparing to make with regard to the use permit. ASR growth means the existing parking lot is barely dealing with the crowds after three different expansions.
There are three entities that need to be satisfied and they are the National Forest Service who's property the Entire CASA range is located on, the EPA as they control what we can do, to an extent, with our use permit as it relates to how we are effecting the environment and last the ASR BOard/Management that decides if we are an asset to their Facility.
Right now there is better cooperation between those entities than there has been in the past because ASR is currently compliant with the Use permit and the Environmental guys at the same time and that is the time where our Activity could be an asset.
Both ASR and the NFS are both very pleased with the Look CASA has given the ASR Entrance and will consider the possibility of letting us go to the other side of the road with a specific variance the ASR Management is prepared to present to them. Basically it will expand the area we can use as we are already listed on the Easement Variance.
Sunday I spent 5 hours mowing and I'm feeling it today. 4 tanks of fuel through the mower and the faciltiy has never looked better. WE need a lawn tractor as I'm getting too old for this stuff.
After I finished I went up to the office and asked the management about the possibilty of using the Painball area. They mentioned they were about to prepare a request to the NFS with regard to possible variances on the use permit which includes our use of the NSF property below the gate. 12 years ago we shot down there on the same side of the road as we are now but we shot into the Creek which the NSF put a halt to as soon as they saw it. It came down to "we should have asked"
When the NSF reviews the request we want to make sure there is nothing but positives for them to see. There is a very real possibility of CASA having an East Range. I could not have spent a better day buffing the range out. With the ASR management and board behind us we could see CASA getting lucky.
Next Sunday after the Silhouette shoot I'm going to work on the Range more and I'd like to see if we could get others to help out (in the afternoon around 1PM). The Practice Range is larger than it has EVER been and all we need to do is mow the last 6 lanes and clean up all the trash and Range clutter.
Hector Alfaro is helping to get the New sign done and we can complete all the Facility requests checked off so we are compliant with the request from ASR for signage on the AG Practice Range. We want to have all of our DUCKS in a row.

We have been approved by ASR management to go ahead with the CASA East FT Range in the woods at Angeles. WE have a designated parking area and about 10 acres of woods we can develop into a new Course to challenge the FT shooters. The Facility already mows a 20-30 foot wide area a along the road on the Eastside of the Entrance road and there is a turnout area they will designate as the Parking area they will also keep mowed. WE can prety much use the are as we please and there are opportunities to have downhill shots in this area.
At the fourth Sunday FT match April 28th we can survey they possiblities and come up with a game plan for the new range. I put the adhesive panels on the sign Hector installed at the front entrance of ASR. I'm pleased at how it came out. We are lucky & blessed @ CASA and it seems we have the wind @ our back. 2013 is turning out to be a great year for the Club.
