Crosman 160

Hi, Would a Hipac work on a Crosman 160?

A 160 is a CO2 rifle that can be bulk fed CO2 but it is not made with the same internal tube thread the current guns have. It has an external thread and the tube is actually a pressure vessel unlike the current offering. The factory 2240 presure is sealed at the tip of the CO2 cartridge where the 160 seals at the tube cap and is a dual CO2 cartirdge gun. A high Pak is the pressure vesel and slips into the original and seals on the face seal so it is not going to work in any of the old pressure vessel type guns. There really is no relation to the older guns except the breech seal which the 160 and 2240 share. Pretty much no other parts.
CO2 systems should be left CO2 systems for the most part when the original tube would need to be changed out. For the gun to tolerate High presures you would need a higher rated tube as well as better valve fastening(basically a Disco Tube/valve/plug).
160's and QB's both should not be charged beyond 1500 psi due to inadequate valve fastening. I know that doesn't stop anyone but it is the reality of the thread depth and wall thickness at the thread. Nominal 1/16" wall is under that actually, excentric to a degree and the Crosman thread is rather coarse which has a deep pitch. On the Chinese tubes they are considerably more variable in the wall thickness with finer thread. They are not suitable for high pressure so please don't do it.
The best way to cap tubes is with Cap head allens with the head in shear between plug and tube. No compromise to the wall to thread pitch is the best soltion for valve mounting as well as tube caps. CO2 guns can get away with stuff you don't want to see High Pressures.

I have an old 160 that averages 15 FPE with CPHPs, and will touch 17 FPE with heavy JSB's. That's with a standard pair of CO2's. Get's about 24 full power shots. That performance pretty much convinced me to leave it alone for now. It'll eventually go to Mike at Flying Dragon for a freshening up, but minimal mods. The gun may have been modded before I got it, but wont know for certain till Mike opens it up.

Just surprising the performance the old 160's can produce.

Yes, they are nice old rifles, mine will also do 17 FPE  JSB's. Pretty sure mine is stock, picked it up at gun shop for $25 two yrs ago, this is my first CO2, very impressed.

The older guns were sleepers for sure. Most will do 600 FPS with a Baracuda 22.1 grainer. That is a nice hearty 17 fpe with retained energy that is best of caliber. That can do some damage downrange and has Humiliated more than a few spring guns who figured they could hang with a simple CO2 gun. Dual CO2. A piece of American History (and now Chinese) brought all of us by the genius of Rudy Mertz.
The ones that group well deserve a scope rail as there is no way iron sights does this gun justice. Just like we grooved the QB the 160 breeches we groove will take the WGRS-54 Peep with stock iron front sight. Sears type grooves were not quite deep enough to use the Williams 54.

Good Stuff. Especially with the '64 trigger like the QB has.
