chrony numbers from my new Benj Trail np XL1100 .22

I have about 500 rounds through it now. How do they look? Does anyone see any problems? I ask because sometimes I can touch 3 rounds at 25 yards and sometimes my group is 3 inches but at 70 yards I can  group at 4 inches.

I installed my tuna trigger and it made some difference. I think I might be pushing the stock with my cheek.

Try some 15.9 JSB. Maybe the spread will tighten with more shots and a cleaning as well.

I have cleaned it twice so for. I have more pellets on the way. However I do not have the ones you are recommending but will order some. Thanks for the info.

Does my fps look up to speed for this air rifle??

Your speed's for the CPHP's are very close to what my XL shot them,sorry that was the only pellet that I have run over a chrony with in mine(890f.p.s. average). You mentioned you cleaned it twice already? If you mean the barrel I would suggest you not clean it till acc. fall's off, which on mine I have at least 2500 an have only ran 1 patch in it, an that was just out of curiousity? Having them "seasoned" like a Black Powder gun seem's too make an AG more acc. over all,I know as a powder head this was hard for me at first also,but it does seem to hold true.

I went back and checked my first chrony results and it looks a lot like yours for the crosman and benji pellets. I'd say your numbers are pretty normal for a new XL1100 that's not yet reached it's break in period.  My average fps actually went up a little after I put a couple thousand rounds through it. As for cleaning it, I'm gonna start a topic about it and take a pole on how important it is or isn't to keep it clean. Me, I keep my rifles oiled up. I clean the barrel on my XL every couple hundred lead rounds. I try to shoot the copper coated beeman domes exclusively, it's not only my guns magic bullet, but it leaves no lead fowling behind. I also make it a habit to pass a patch with a little bit of synthetic oil on it to coat the barrel just before I put it away. EVERYTIME! To gaurd against rust.

Your numbers look good, not enough of a velocity spread to justify a 3" group at 25 yd.  I'd say just keep practicing.

What I found, being new to magnum air guns, is that a consistent hold, cheek weld, and trigger pull from one shot to the next is ABSOLUTELY vital to getting good accuracy every time.  I fought with a Trail NP AW this past summer, putting well over 500 shots through her, before I finally figured out the right combination of how to hold, where to hold, and how to pull the trigger.  With mine, I found that lightly holding the fore-end in my off hand, while pulling the stock firmly into my shoulder, while pulling the trigger with the TIP of my finger (and not further back by the first joint), was what did it.  So long as I do all those things, it will shoot as well as I can.

 I wish mine were as good as that . I have a chrony coming tomorrow but the rifle is being sent back . I only had it 3 weeks now . My Phantom and Super Streak  put the Nitro XL1100 i have  to shame . I'm just waiting to chrony it before i send it back just to make sure i'm not imagining it . I must have shot over 2500 rounds through it trying ( hoping ) its power , recoil and noise level would improve but , no luck on any of those fronts . In fact , it appears to be getting weaker . The only thing i did like about the rifle apart from its Great Looks was it is so easy to cock , which , goes against what quite a few people have said about this gun . Like i said , hopefully i just got an expensive Dud and its replaced with a Real XL1100 .

Did any of these show better accuracy? From these numbers, you have 2 that show the same 14fps spread, which is darn good. The Meisters and Gamo Rockets have the smallest spread with the Rocket giving the best power numbers. They output between 25.78fpe and 26.59fpe. This is very good and makes for an excellent hunter.
As mentioned, you do not need to clean a barrel very often. You actually need to "lead in" a barrel by shooting a lot of rounds through it. You need to make an initial cleaning to remove any oils or particles left after manufacturing. Shoot a lot of cheaper pellets just to get some lead in there to fill in imperfections in the rifling.
I do what you have done as a baseline for choosing the diet for a particular gun. I shoot several different rounds across a chrony to get the spread and power out. I select the top 2 or 3 that have the least spread and highest power. Then I shoot them to see how the accuracy is at 25-30 yards, my normal hunting range. The best performer becomes the diet for that particular gun.
I'm kinda surprised at the spread of the CPHP rounds though. All of my guns perform well with this ammo. I get better power from others but CPHP does a good job in all of mine and has a much smaller spread. Let us know what other rounds you test. I have settled on H&N Crow Magnum 18.21gr in my XL1100. My NP powered .22 SS likes Predator Polymag 16gr.

The Benj seems to be the most accurate over all at this time however the Meisters were more accurate at 25 yards but less accurate at 35 yards and beyond. I just received some predator polys and jsb heavy to try.

I should add that it was 50 degrees at the time of my testing. I will do it again around 30 degrees in the next day or so.
