Worn Out a Crosman Spring

Finally I worn out a "1000"fps Crosman spring (Less 2 coils).  Happened in my .177 Gamo Viper with 5000+ shots.  Usually the springs break into 3 or 4 sections before I change them.  Not this one....still in one piece but alot weaker.

The air rifle have been weak since last fall and the pellet only dented a soup can at 8 yards.  With the new Crosman spring (2 coils clipped off to fit inside) the pellet(s) can pass through 5 layers and dent the 6th layer of soup can metal.

Who knows....maybe Crosman have a different supplier of springs.  Before their springs only last 700+ shots before a section break off (At least for me) and I notice a loss of power.

That is good news for the customer, crosman is improving the quality of their springs, or went through a better supplier as you stated.
Where do you get your springs, are they actually from crosman or just meant for crosmans guns.

I've had decent luck with Crosman springs. No breaks, but wear em out at about 3k shots, including the replacements direct from Crosman. I've since switched to JM springs for my Crosman stuff.

I got them direct from Crosman.  I've still got 2 more.  After that I might order some from Jim Macarri even though they're more expensive....read that his springs can last alot longer.
One thing I found with the newer springs......their interior diameter is smaller.  I had to grind the top hats down for them to fit into the springs.  Maybe the newer Crosman's top hats are narrower?

Naa. It's probably just that the spring took a set once compressed and so the innner diameter expanded a bit, especially once wore out. The new springs arent set, so the inner diam is tighter.

Paul68, nope, before I can easily put the top hat into the new Crosman spring and it would spin inside the spring.  The last few times I had to grind the top hats of the Gamo or Crosmans.  I just grind enough and had to forcefully twist and push them into the springs.

Not only that....even with the well used springs....the spring had to be clamped in a vise and the top hat gripped by a pair of pliers and pulled out while rotating it.
