Pulled the trigger on Beeman RX2!

Well, after much deliberation - I decided to pull the trigger on a new RX2!

I'm looking for a do it all rifle that's capable of some accurate target work but also support my hunting needs with my kids.

Super stoked. Leupold 3-9 Ultralight coupled to a 1-piece BKL mount. Spendy kit for sure but 20+fpe and accurate - can't wait!

    I've had my RX2 for sometime now and it's probably the hardest shooter I have. Unless I missed it in your note, I didn't see what caliber you bought. Mine is .20...whichever you have, you'll not be sorry for getting one.

Based on my 6 weeks of exhaustive searching, I decided to go with the .20 cal as I think the powerplant is best suited for this caliber. Just seems to be the best combination of muzzle velocity and energy for my needs. It should shoot nice and flat to 50yds while still providing better wind resistance and knock-down power over the .177. I think the .22 is well suited as well but the slight increase in muzzle won me with the .20.


Hoping it's as nice as I've read.

Congrats on the new cannon! That should be an awesome combo with the leupold scope.

Man 30+ inches of snow is insane! Thats too deep for the 4 wheeler to pull the tubers through. What the h do you do with 30 inches of snow?

Itbvolks I think you made a great choice in a quality break barrel.  While I don't have an RX-2, I've shot my neighbor's RX-1 on numerous occasions.  Its the same rifle, it just has a regular, lighter wooden stock, rather than the laminated one yours will have.  He also has the .20 cal. and I think its a great choice in caliber for that rifle.  His was tuned and reported to make 940 fps with the light-weight Silver Bear .20 cal. pellets.  His gun is the most accurate with the 13.5 grain JSBs though, and its shooting those in the 800+ fps range, which is plenty of speed, especially for a pellet that size. 

While its a large, heavy rifle, it sure packs a punch on my spinner targets at 30 yards and shoots very flat to my 40 yards targets.  The gas ram really helps to smooth things out and makes the shot cycle feel fairly fast.  About the only thing about it that didn't impress me was the trigger.  His is set for a very long first stage, while I prefer mine nice and short.  I'm positive you will get a lot of enjoyment out of yours and be sure to try the JSB and Field Target Trophy domed pellets by H&N, as these tend to be some of the most accurate of the domed pellets in .20 cal.

30" of snow is no good. There's no where to put it....  lol  We got a little last night as well. Good news is the string of 40*+ days we've had this week. Certainly refreshing....

I've been back and forth a million times and really wanted to pull the trigger on a TX200 (still might) but based on the mixed usage and the fact that I'm trying to get my kids into responsible hunting and gun ownership - I thought the RX made a great middle ground based on all my research. It's certainly a powerful gas ram gun but it also sounds like with a bit of tuning and bringing the system pressure down - one can have a nice smooth target gun....


Do I expect it to be TX200/HW97 accurate - no, obviously. That said, I think it can provide a quality challenge and provide years of enjoyment doing a little bit of everything.....

Cool beans,....and 5mm too?!?!?! Good going. If you wanted a power-house piston shooter, then you got one for sure. With the right tools and equipment, they are super easy to work on, and so versitile
To set up for different pellet weight to power output options. I wish they made a junior version at about 2/3rds the weight. The RX/HW90 series guns are awesome. Have fun!!!!!!

Please post pics of that RX-2 as soon as you get it. I'm eagerly awaiting to see it! That thing should feel tuned right out of the box, it'll diesel a bit depending how much lube needs to burn off. The beauty of a gas ram is you can shoot any weight pellets, the ram doesn't care.

As mentioned - I think 5mm is the proper cal for this power plant based on all my research. I think it's a nice all around caliber based on my needs. Now - seeing Niko's most recent TX groups are kicking my arse but hoping I can get a handle on this girl to see what she can really do.

That is one fine piece of rifle you've got there. I got mine late last March. Shot the heck out ov it. I started out at 895 fps with the JSB Exacts, but as it settled and quit lightly Dieseling, it has dropped to 840 give or take. It looks like you've got a fine scope for it...let me suggest not getting any scope that does not come with a perfect warranty attached. That rifle is capable of generating a pulse on firing in excess of 400 g(  4000m/second^2 read off a calibrated accelerometer).

The circuitious process required to put up big pix cuts my pic posting by 80% at least. I tried the H&N Match at 10 gr and they do indeed fly out the end of the barrel. Silly fast...

hahahahaah!!!  I'm here!  I had to get her out there and run it a bit.


Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed. The gun is straight art. Well built and beautiful. Laminated stock is very pretty - though I need to buff it and hit it with some oil to really get it shinned up. Great grain. I actually prefer the blocky stock cut as I have large hands and I honestly find it rests well in all positions. Weight is significant. No question. It's a heavy rifle. I'm a big guy so can handle it but I can envision this being a handful out hunting all day. I added a nice sling which works out perfectly for handling. Balance is great. Really good actually. Just fore of the trigger guard. Handling is great. Shoulders really well...

Scope wise, I LOVE the Leupold. I wish it maybe had a little more reach. That said, again, for hunting - it's a really nice focal length. It's super clear with no aberrations anywhere within the focus range. Reticle is super thin and clear. I'm thoroughly impressed with how much light that little monster gathers. It's super light. Fit and finish is awesome. Everything is tight and smooth. Turrets are smooth and clicks tight. Usage wise, acquisition is quick and clean. Very nice and glad I decided to stay with this rather than go elsewhere for optics. We will see how it holds up on this monster but as it stands, certainly nice gear...

Mount wise, I went with a one piece droop mount BKL Tech with 6-bolt fastening. I really like the dovetail mount setup. It setup well and fit the rifle but I would prefer 2x changes - add a stop pin for the receiver and go to a 4-bolt split clamp cap setup. We will see how it works out - function wise - report coming.

Details - got home Friday night and pulled it out and gave her a thorough cleaning and wipe down. Little goo-gone and some patches. Nothing alarming and all looked good. Moved on to mounting everything up and loctite everything. Setup went without issue.


Anyway - on to the shooting. It's a beast. Cocking this is for real. I don't know what the actual force required is but it's significant. 50-60lbs wouldn't shock me.  lol  It's a heavy mother. Benched, it's great. Solid and stable... Artillery hold is stable as it gets - though, it's fatiguing to shoot. I'm not sure where the trigger complaints come from. Mine breaks just under 2lbs. First stage is a little long but nice feel for 2nd stage. Break is absolutely on the spot, consistent with zero creep at all.....  I would guess I shot 150-175rds through her yesterday. I picked up a few pellet options to try and figure out what works well. FTSs, Exacts, Kodiaks, FTT's. Initial shooting post cleaning showed only slight dieseling which "seemed" to clear up pretty quickly. She kicks like a truck for a non-powder burner. It's a smooth, sharp snap vs a springer. I like it. Its enough punch that is did cause issues with the mount moving. I decided to move past the factory 35in/lbs and bumped it up. Everything was cleaned and locked down. It's really tight. lol  Problem solved and the mount is solid. Then the scope started moving in the clamps so again, added a little more torque to lock those down. I'm a little concerned with damaging the scope so trying to go easy there....

Ran her through the Chrony for a baseline and was REALLY impressed out of the box. Again - .20cal


Avg Velocity -

FTS's - 926.4fps
FTT's - 928.2fps
Exact's - 867.2fps
Kodiak's - didn't shoot yet.

Interested to see where these are once the gun settles in and the weather warms up. It was right about 32* yesterday here with light snow.


Overall, took probably 25-30 rounds to get it sighted in. Took only a few clicks in elevation and windage either direction to get her dialed. Was shooting only 15yrds for the initial sight in but was shooting ragged one holers. We did some longer shooting but wasn't lasered for yardage so not sure. I would guess we've got a 75yrd slightly downhill shot and we were shooting cans with good success. That said, I still need to re-zero at a practical yardage (30).

Overall, I'm very happy with the gun. It's beautiful and handles great. It's a challenge to shoot accurately but wouldn't call it overly hold sensitive. It's a pleasure to shoot and thoroughly enjoyable. I can't wait to get it out again....
