How I hold my Trail NP .22

Maybe it's because this rifle has over 2500 rounds through it, or maybe I've finally figured out a hold that works well for me, but I can consistently get 3/4" groups at 35 yards by gently holding my forehand here:



The GRTIII trigger helps too. I've tried holding tightly (seemed to work for a little while), I've tried holding lightly, just in front of the trigger guard (artillary style), but over the last 1000 rounds, I've been holding gently as shown, with my thumb lightly pressing in the screw hole in the stock, and this thing is shooting nice now. Seems to be the best position for my particular rifle, so if you are getting wacky groups, maybe try this hold.

When shooting off the bench i hold it in the the same place in a smallbore glove.Other wise i get vertical stringing.Even with that i need a trigger to shrink them down.How easy was the trigger to install?

I had been using the artillery hold with my Trail since I got it, and was getting pretty good groups. I tried moving my hand forward like you are holding yours, my groups have tightened some. Thanks

Tonight for my 25 yard offhand i used my standard smallbore offhand stance.This is with the rifle on the top of my clenched fist just forward of the trigger guard.It worked very well and hit center of aim (most of the time)as the above hold did off of the bags.I have had the rifle three days and shot over 350 through it already.Its growing on me.I will have a new trigger on it in a week and i bet i can get rid of those low and high shots.

You may be interested in this tutorial video by Tom Gaylord on the subject.  It works great and explains why to use the artillery hold. It also is good to let the rifle rest on your forearm if you're sitting out in the field.  Again, it just let's her breathe.

It took another scope to figure out the barrel joint got slightly bent upwards and the scope won't adj. up to the poi. Does anyone know if this will be difficult to fix? Or should we just go with a new one?

Not sure exactly what your saying, but as long as the lock-up is consistent you should be able to put a shim the scope
