Does anyone make something that will make cocking an HW97 easier? Something that remains on the cocking lever?

I really dont see any way to mount much of anything that would help with the cocking. you can't add length to the cocking rod. and you cant add hardly any diameter or it will hit the barrel. maybe get yours detuned to 12fpe ? should be a little easier to cock then ?

I have seen very few photos of cocking aids on spring underlevers (HW97 & TX200), and have not found any place on the Web that sells such a device. The only downside comments I have read talk about the underlever not always snapping back in place.

Skip, I discovered that I had muscles i didn't know I had when I first cocked my 97. Actually after a month, it's become easier. I'm a long time car hauler and have been plagued with tennis elbow in both my arms, from chaining down thousands of cars.
I find that if I twist the rifle sideways, lever to the left and grip it with my palm facing me, it's easy. The trick is to have the buttstock anchored on something solid. The shelf at the range, if I'm standing, or the joint at my hip on my left leg if I'm sitting. It becomes easier over time as your body adapts to what works. I know if I grip the lever with my palm facing away from me and pull on the lever, I aggravate the tendons in my elbow.

A TX200 hunter carbine has a cocking assist THINGY on the lever, looks kinda like a muzzle brake. you may could get a machinist to make you something like that and slip it over the cocking lever and secure it with grub screws, would give you alittle more to hold on to.

I know I got a few emails from him about a rear sight cover plate for my FWB124 and then there were changes at his place of employment and since then he hasn't responded to me.
Maybe you will have better luck.

Skip, one thing you could try it to get a small length of schedule grade PVC piping, maybe about a foot and a half and use that as a lever when you go to cock the 97. The plastic would not mar the cocking lever.

Hi guys,

Why not use a stylish rubber grip instead? the rubber from a fine marker, pen or pencil, you can buy it from Office Depot or Wal Mart.

I put one on my HW97, it sure helps cocking easier.

Don't know if this will work or not. Not sure of the cocking lever diameter.

Look under where you type your response, click on "Attachments and other options" hit browse. then you can go to "my pictures" or where ever you put pics on your computer. highlight a pic and hit OK. least that is how I do it. if it is bigger than 200kb you can use Photobucket, do a search, there is a sticky somewhere on how to post pics with photobucket

Here's the test -

zeroed in 21yards, verified by 10 shots, holded 1/4" hole.

turned both Windage/Elevation Adjustment by 20 clicks each, fired 5 shots, returned to the original zeroing.

Lost the original zeroing, POI is bigger than 1/2" inch.

The HW97 is not really a magnum gun, it is considered medium power. If the scope is new you need to send it back. The Hawke HD scopes are what I use, but I did have to send one of them back for replacement. The Leapers SWAT scopes are good also. zero the scope and see if it holds zero, without turning the adjustment knobs any.

The Leapers is a replacement already. The x-leaper got its mag ring knocked out; the x-hawke 6-24 is a complete failure, waiting for the replacement now.

You mentioned Leapers SWAT, do you use it on any of your AR? and if so, how long has it been in action?

Both my x's only held for a month or so. And I hate their Sale reps!

BTW, could you explain why just to see it it holds zero, why can't I turn knobs?

I had a SWAT, used it on a couple of guns and it did ok. had it on a NP XL that ate CP scopes for breakfast, the SWAT held up. but they are heavy scopes. you talkin about the Hawke rep ? man he went out of the way to help me. I was just wondering if stays zero'd why would you want to turn the knobs. once mine are zero'd I leave them alone, but thats just me
