Anybody making simple lathes

       Anybody making any simple homemade lathes? I need some ideas. Other than just chucking it up in drill clamped to the bench.

The thing about "simple Home built tools" is that they are usually built from the scrap box,  and so the plans tend to vary somewhat.  Plus,  each builder has his own ideas, or he wouldn't be building in the first place.

Look at Dave Gingery for home built machine tools.  He used  engine pistons for head stock and spindle.

If you were closer,  I could set you up with a used spinning lathe for less money than just about any build.

ya...i saw a fully tooled 9" craftsman lathe on Craig's list for $500.00 just a few days ago.

yeah, used is the way to go, I got a Craftsman 109 for $25 once, but it's in SUPER ROUGH shape and missing some important parts, might grab that from my mom's this summer for a winter project to clean up... but I got my 7x12" lathe (same as a Harbor Freight or Grizzly, or any of the other names that are the same...) in almost new shape for $250 when they sell for $500 now...
